Each year, more than 3 million people visit Yellowstone National Park to see sites like Old Faithful and the Mammoth hot springs. The park covers 2.2 million acres, which is more than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. Its massive size makes overnight accommodations a must for those trying to see most of the park during their visit. Motels in and just outside of the park provide affordable options for those planning a visit.
Motels Near the North Entrance
The town of Gardiner, Montana, houses several motels near Yellowstone Park’s north entrance. The Super 8 Gardiner/Yellowstone Park area sits right at the north entrance to the park. It offers an indoor heated pool and outdoor deck area where guests can often view wildlife from the hotel. Another motel at the park’s entrance, the Yellowstone River Motel, invites outdoor recreation with barbecue grills, picnic tables and a patio that overlooks the Yellowstone River. Gardiner’s Travelodge offers kid-friendly amenities, such as an on-site arcade and free cribs. Its location is less than a mile from the park entrance.
Motels Near the West Entrance
Two motels await those staying near the park’s west entrance in the town of West Yellowstone. The Days Inn of West Yellowstone sits just three blocks from the west entrance, providing fast access to the upper and lower loops of the park. The motel’s indoor pool has a 100-foot waterslide and two hot tubs. The Days Inn offers the option for guests to stay in suites with microwaves and refrigerators. The Clubhouse Inn is adjacent to the west entrance to the park. Here guests choose from suites, including whirlpool suites, and traditional guestrooms with interior access. A three-piece fitness center and indoor pool with hot tub provide on-site recreation, and guests dine on a complimentary continental breakfast each morning.
Motels Near the East Entrance
Cody, Wyoming, sits less than 25 miles from the park’s eastern edge. In Cody, consider the Yellowstone Valley Inn and the Best Western Sunset Motor Inn. The Yellowstone Valley Inn offers a motel in conjunction with an RV park, cabins and a lodge with two suite rooms. An on-site restaurant serves all meals, while an outdoor pool, indoor hot tub and playground provide on-site recreation at the pet-friend lodging option. The Best Western Sunset Motor Inn, also in Cody, has an indoor/outdoor swimming pool with a hot tub as well as a fitness center. The Best Western also welcomes pets.
Motels Inside Yellowstone
To fully experience Yellowstone National Park with minimal driving time, consider staying in one of the motels on site. If you do stay in the park, understand that none of the park’s hotels have air conditioning, radios, televisions or Internet access. The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel offers standard hotel rooms and frontier cabins with minimal amenities. Cabins have no telephones, but motel rooms do include phones. Guests often see elk grazing on the grounds of the hotel. The Old Faithful Inn sits next to the famous geyser in a historic building originally constructed in 1904. Lodging in this hotel ranges from suites and premium rooms to small motel-style rooms with shared bath facilities. While the Old Faithful Inn has rooms with amenities similar to a motel, the prices are much higher because of the historic nature of the hotel and its close proximity to one of the park’s most popular natural attractions.
