If you are getting married at a friend's home, you may be wondering how to best word this on your wedding invitation. The good news is that there is no one right way to script wedding invitations, which means that you can choose wording to reflect your personality and taste. The most important thing is that you clearly state the location of both the ceremony and reception. You don't want lost guests on the day of your wedding.
Location Placement
Regardless of where you are having your wedding, the location is always listed at the end of the text. It should be directly preceded by the date and time of the wedding. If the reception is at a separate location, this is specified beneath the ceremony location.
Address Only
One way to word the location of a wedding being held at a friend's house is to simply list the address beneath the date and time. For example: "We invite you to celebrate the marriage of Jane Doe and John Smith on Saturday, the fourth of August at four o'clock in the afternoon, 1 Happy Lane, New York, New York."
Location Title
If you want to acknowledge your friend or think that identifying the location as their home will make it easier for guests, you may title the location. For example: "We invite you to celebrate the marriage of Jane Doe and John Smith on Saturday, the fourth of August at four o'clock in the afternoon, The Jones' Home, 1 Happy Lane, New York, New York." For a more formal approach, you could say: "We invite you to celebrate the marriage of Jane Doe and John Smith on Saturday, the fourth of August at four o'clock in the afternoon, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones, 1 Happy Lane, New York, New York."
Including a Separate Reception Site
If your reception site is different from the wedding site, this should be detailed after listing the ceremony location. If your reception is at a friend's house, here is an example of how to appropriately word your invitation: "We invite you to celebrate the marriage of Jane Doe and John Smith on Saturday, the fourth of August at four o'clock in the afternoon, Little Old Church, 5 Love Lane, New York, New York. Reception to follow at the Jones' Home, 1 Happy Lane." You could also say, "Reception to follow at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones, 1 Happy Lane." If you do not want to include the title of your friend's home in the reception details, you can opt to include only the address.
