Trails of Chestnut Meadows in Forney, Texas

by Ian Farquharson

The city of Forney was founded in 1873 at the intersection of two important 19th-century Texas routes, the Bonham to Buffalo Road and the railroad between Marshall and Fort Worth. Named after John W. Forney, a railroad director, the city has grown from a tough frontier settlement to a quiet residential location. The growth of Forney continues, with the development of Trails of Chestnut Meadows, a master-planned community.

The city of Forney, 20 miles east of downtown Dallas, is one of the fastest-growing locations in Kaufman County, Texas, according to the city website. The Trails of Chestnut Meadows community, developed by Horizon Homes, provides easy access to Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 80. The community is situated in the area of the old Sycamore Trail.

Property Layouts

The Horizon Homes website indicates that plots available at Trails of Chestnut Meadows include some of the biggest of any master-planned development. Floor plan options for the properties come in a variety of styles, and range in size from around 1,400 to 3,500 squarefeet. This includes 1-story properties, as well as those with 1 to 1.5, and 2 stories. In total there are more than 20 different property layouts to choose from.

Property Features

The design of the properties at the community includes a variety of features. The interior of the homes include impressive vaulted ceilings, traditional fireplaces, designer kitchen layouts, garages and tiled floors in the main areas. Two-story properties also have games and media rooms. The exterior of the property includes extended living areas accessible from the property, as well as lawn, flowerbeds and driveway leading to the garage. Depending on the design, prices vary from around $150,000 to $225,000.

Living in the Trails of Chestnut Meadows provides easy access to a range of leisure activities. The development is bordered by a greenway with a walking trail for those wanting some nearby exercise, and the city of Forney offers Latimer, Bell and Eastside parks. Golfers can play the nearby Buffalo Creek Golf Course, and nature lovers and sportsmen can enjoy outdoor activities at Lake Ray Hubbard. Shoppers have a few choices, some of which include the Forney antique district, Town East Mall in nearby Mesquite and the many shopping locations in Dallas.

The Trails of Chestnut Meadows community lies in the Forney Independent School District, which has gained excellent reviews from the Texas Education Agency. Forney ISD has three schools bordering the community, within an easy commuting distance of the properties. These accommodate all ages of pupils, and include Clayborn Elementary, Warren Middle School and Forney High School.
