by Alane Michaelson, Demand Media

Cape Cod in Massachusetts is home to beachfront and wooded camping sites and some of those facilities are tent-only. Some campers prefer tent-only sites in order to have a more rustic camping experience. Peak camping season in the Cape Cod area runs from mid-June until Labor Day.

The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/wbnr.htm) is located on Cape Cod's south shore and includes 2,700 waterfront acres. Trails, marshes, beaches and woodlands are located on the reserve. Rustic camping is available on the reserve and the sites are only accessible via private boat. Adventure Bound Camping Resorts

Adventure Bound Camping Resorts (abcamping.net/abcapecod) features tent-only camping in North Truro. The site features more than 60 acres of woodlands, fishing, dunes, boating and views of Cape Cod Bay. Also, the Coast Guard Beach is one mile away from the resort.

    Shawme-Crowell State Forest

The Shawme-Crowell State Forest (mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/schr.htm) is a wooded camping facility with more than 285 sites on the shores of Cape Cod. The park includes hiking and horse trails and access to the beach at the Scusset State Reservation. RV camping is available at the park but there are sections of the park reserved exclusively for tent camping. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

    Tully Lake Campground

Tully Lake Campground (thetrustees.org/places-to-visit/places-to-stay/tully-lake-campground) is a tent-only campground on Royalston Lake.
