A Table Setting for a 21-Year Old Birthday Party

by Kent Page McGroarty

The 21st birthday is a special one because it is one of the last rites of passage before becoming an adult. The anticipation of turning 21, which is exciting enough as it is, is even greater if many of the birthday person's friends have already turned 21. The 21st birthday is also the birthday where everything can be related to alcohol, from the tableware to the favors. Celebrate the 21st birthday by creating a party table setting fitting for a night of festivities.

Place Cards & Gift Boxes

Make or purchase place cards for guests' seats in the shape of beer mugs or martini glasses. Names can be written in glue and covered in glitter to create bedazzled place cards or make cards personal by using a photo of the guest with the birthday girl or boy as a photo keepsake of the event. Small gift boxes can go next to each place card filled with candies and small party favors such as plastic champagne flutes or shot glasses emblazoned with "[Name's] 21st Birthday Bash."

No party table is complete without a centerpiece, such as arrangements of martini glasses filled with faux jewels and mini bottles of liquor. Other options include clusters of personalized balloons in the shape of beer mugs with the birthday person's name on them. Birthday pinatas in the shape of "21" or beer mugs or bottles are also centerpiece options that can be used later in the party for more birthday fun.

Casual party table settings may feature paper plates, napkins and cups featuring beer and liquor images and "21" in bright colors. Order a variety of plastic beer mugs to place at each table setting, or use plastic cups like those used in beer pong games. Keep candy and assorted appetizers in beer mugs, steins and inflatable beer mugs. Those planning a formal 21st birthday celebration might use ceramic or china flatware in the guest of honor's favorite color.

Additional Ideas

Tables can be sprinkled with birthday confetti that spell out "21" and "Happy Birthday." Cowboy hats made out of beer boxes can be placed all over the table. Litter the table with ping pong balls in various colors for a game of beer pong, beer mug-shaped sunglasses, plastic bead necklaces with beer mug charms, beer bottle holders or mini beer can candles.
