Milton William Cooper's life (like his death) was obscured by conflict and controversy. From his early days working with military intelligence during the Vietnam War to the day he was killed by police during a raid on his home, the mysterious circumstances of his life invite heated debate on ufology and conspiracy websites. Cooper's 1991 publication "Behold a Pale Horse" shares his controversial life in uncompromising language that seems to foreshadow his dark end.
Preparing the Canvas
"Behold a Pale Horse" paints a broad conspiracy picture in many different layers. The groundwork of his tale begins with an autobiographic journey to explain his unique perspective and how he was able to touch upon information that is often out of the reach of the common man. He follows his personal background with a quick view of secret societies and "the new world order" to familiarize the reader with the secret powers that he claims rule us all, their rituals, agreements and dark objectives.
After laying a groundwork of information that allows him to speak with some level of authority and credibility, Cooper develops his conspiracy picture with bold establishing strokes -- specific examples of how the forces of the elites shape our destiny with law. To those who follow conspiracy theory, there are few more-cited examples than HR4079 as a clear attempt to undermine Constitutional government. Cooper's references to the legislation predate its passage and warn of its danger. Cooper also cites the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, which adds the powers needed to bring about a police state.
Cooper accents his conspiracy portrait with refining strokes that highlight his thesis. These accents sprawl across the conspiracy spectrum from alien collaborations to Zionist agendas. He drops these elements into his work as they appear in the official documents with little modification or explanation, which can make them tough for the novice to conspiracy theory to integrate into the larger picture. The reader may also find it difficult to accept that UFOs play into the larger conspiracy. Fortunately, in the latter case Cooper offers many possible speculative explanations, including that he might unwittingly be party to the dissemination of misinformation about aliens.
Framing the Conspiracy Portrait
Cooper finishes his conspiracy portrait by framing it with supplemental evidence and several appendices of scanned documents and articles. Although his frame is solid, it does come with few instructions or clarifications. It frames the ultimate conspiracy story, in which upper echelon members of Satanist and Zionist groups have infiltrated the governments of the world. They have created laws and coordinated interests working toward a goal of an invisible global power structure. One downside to the framework is that it leads to as many questions as it answers.
