Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Attractions

by Nicole Brown, Demand Media

Sunrise Beach is located on the west shore of the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri. The town is relatively small in population, with fewer than 500 residents, but there are plenty of attractions for visitors looking for something off the beaten path.

    Resorts

Visitors to Sunrise Beach will find two resorts to help them relax and take in the beauty of the Ozarks. Lakeview Resort (lakeviewresortlakeozarks.com) is suitable for families or couples; lodging at Lakeview includes cottages for two and cabins with as many as six bedrooms for large families and groups. Rent a boat or go for a parasailing ride on the lake from the resort's marina, or play outdoor volleyball, hike and take the kids swimming at the indoor pool. The Club at Porto Cima (portocima.com) is a private golf club on the shore of the Lake of the Ozarks. It features an 18-hole golf course designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Although Porto Cima is a private club, it offers a "Stay the package includes two nights in a private villa, four rounds of golf and lunch at the private club.

    Restaurants

It is nearly impossible to go hungry in Sunrise Beach with the wide selection of restaurants available to visitors. Shrimp Daddy's (shrimpdaddys.com) features Southern seafood and local favorites, with dishes like almond-crusted duck strips, hand-breaded catfish and, of course, shrimp made almost every way imaginable. Sunrise Cantina (sunrisecantina.com) has been serving fresh Mexican food in Sunrise Beach since 1997. The restaurant is located on a bluff near the beach, giving diners expansive views of the lake and sunsets. Sunrise Cantina serves grouper and lobster tacos, tamales and handmade guacamole. Ozark Bar-B-Que (ozarkbar-b-que.com) serves traditional barbecue fare including ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken and brisket. For big appetites, the restaurant features a one-pound hamburger. Other Ozark Bar-B-Que specialties include homemade onion rings, smoked turkey legs and salmon.

    Lake of the Ozarks

One of the main attractions of Sunrise Beach is its access to the Lake of the Ozarks --- the lake is a water lover's playground. Put in your boat at one of the Sunrise Beach marinas for a day out on the water. If you don't have your own boat, you can rent one from one of the local marinas so you can water ski, body surf, wakeboard and just cruise around on the lake. Bring your fishing pole and spend the day in a quiet spot to catch some of the lake's bass, catfish and crappie. A fishing license is required before you fish. The Conservation Commission of Missouri (mdc.mo.gov/permits/fishing-permit-information) outlines the requirements for licenses and fishing limits; anglers can purchase lifetime, yearly or daily permits, which suits both Missouri residents and visitors.

    For Wine Lovers

Only 20 miles from Sunrise Beach, wine lovers can visit Casa de Loco Winery (casadelocowinery.com). Located in Camdenton, Casa de Loco offers daily wine tastings and custom wine blending. The winery also hosts weddings and events. If you just can't leave Casa de Loco at the end of your wine-tasting tour, the winery has one- and two-room suites as well as cottages for overnight stays.
