Water Activities

Those who enjoy water activities can swim at the large beach area that is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Water activities can be enjoyed by boat all year long. Fishing and boating are available on the 145-acre lake. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, channel catfish and sunfish.

Land Activities

Those who prefer not to get wet can picnic in one of the many dedicated picnic areas. Each of the areas is equipped with grills and tables for day trips or overnight visits. The picnic areas also offer a playground for kids along with basketball hoops, softball fields and sand volleyball for sports fans. To test your endurance, try one of the park's hiking or mountain biking trails. Hiking trails are rated from "easy" for beginners to "rugged" for experienced hikers. Hikers and bikers are encouraged to wear bright, hunter-orange colored clothing while on the trails, especially during hunting season.

Hunting

Many visit Starve-Hollow to hunt waterfowl. Waterfowl hunting is limited; you must contact the recreation office before you begin your hunt. Other animals such as whitetail deer, ruffled grouse, fox, raccoon, squirrel and wild turkey are also available for hunting at nearby Jackson-Washington State Forest. You must have a permit to hunt.

Camping

Starve-Hollow State Recreation Area offers several camping options. There are 53 separate sites available for full RV hookups. Full hookups include electric, water and sewer. Each site also includes a fire ring, picnic table and parking pad. Electric camping facilities are also available; these sites don't include water and sewage, but public restrooms and showers are available nearby. For true campers, the location offers 23 non-electric camp sites with only drinking water available.
