Sports-Themed Party Games

by Ariel Waters

Sports-themed party video games will get you, your friends and your family on their feet. By using the appropriate system (some of which require adapters), "101-in-1 Sports Party Megamix," "Deca Sports Freedom," "Kinect Sports" and "Racquet Sports" can help you have a successful party. These games take the actions you do at home and translate them on the screen. You can compete in teams or battle against your friends for fun or to feed your need to win.

101-in-1 Sports Party Megamix

Atlus's "101-in-1 Sports Party Megamix" for the Nintendo Wii features over 100 games for you to play, including some outrageous adaptations of popular favorites. As you play, you'll unlock new games like "Brainy Basketball," "Daring Darts," "Power Puck," Paintball Battleground" and "Tennis Takedown." Up to four players can team up or compete head-to-head, but this game is not recommended for children that are under 10 years old because of the mild cartoon violence.

Deca Sports Freedom

"Deca Sports Freedom" features 10 sport-themed party games for the Xbox 360 Kinect, and you can play solo or against your friends. This game has archery, boxing, beach volleyball, dodgeball, figure skating, Kendo, skiing, tennis and snowboarding. If you have Xbox Live, you can play and chat with people around the world and even earn a spot on game leaderboards. The game may not be appropriate for children under 10 because of the mild cartoon violence.

Kinect Sports

Another game for the Xbox 360 Kinect is "Kinect Sports," which offers some very popular sporting events, including volleyball, boxing, track and field, bowling, soccer and table tennis. It was made by Microsoft, and this game's "Sport Party" mode allows your whole guest list to play together, although it is not recommended for children under 10.

Racquet Sports

If you have a Wii or a PlayStation 3 with the PlayStation Move system, you can play "Racquet Sports" with up to three of your friends. This game is rated "E" for everyone, since it lacks any language or actions that may be inappropriate for younger players. "Racquet Sports" features five different racquet sports that you can play in six different ways. In "Party Mode," different things can happen to distract players and interfere with game play, while the "Friendly Tournament" mode is for players who just want to play regularly. Real landscapes were the inspiration for the backdrops -- you can play beach tennis, badminton, ping pong, squash or tennis. You can also unlock new racquets using 11 different athletes, each of which is designed with a unique personality.
