Special Event Party Places in the Houston Area

by Stacy Zeiger Google

With its reputation as the most populous city in Texas and the fourth most populous city in the United States, it should come as no surprise that Houston is home to a wealth of party places for special events. Before looking for a venue for your event, determine what type of event you are going to have, how many guests will attend, and the type of venue desired to make the search easier.

Formal Parties

For a formal wedding reception or other formal party, Houston is home to numerous hotels that offer reception and banquet facilities. Special ballrooms are also available throughout the city. Houston's Ballrooms (houstonsballrooms.com) offers two ballrooms that are each able to hold up to 300 people. Rental packages include chair and table linens, security and catering. In the downtown area, the Magnolia Ballroom (magnoliaballroom.com), located in the Magnolia Brewery Building, includes a state-of-the-art sound system, mood lighting and romantic covered balcony. The ballroom holds up to 200 guests and offers its own catering.

Dance Parties

A dance party requires a large dance floor and sound equipment to get the party started. Houston is home to Stereo Live (stereolivehouston.com) which offers three spaces for rent, including an outdoor terrace, that are able to accommodate from 100 to 800. There is a five-hour minimum for all rentals. The venue contains high quality stereo and lighting equipment and large video screens. Facility staff are available for hire to run the equipment. Outside caterers are allowed. Houston City Dance Studio (houstoncitydance.com) offers its facility for rental. The space includes large dance floors and other performances spaces that are able to be decorated for the ultimate Houston dance party.

Kids Parties

Kids are no longer to content to have a birthday cake and ice cream at home to celebrate their special day. In Houston, hold a kids party at the Children's Museum of Houston (cmhouston.org), which offers party packages for up to 20 guests with free museum admission, a balloon bouquet and museum t-shirt for the birthday child. ITZ USA (itzusa.com) is a family fun center that includes a full buffet for party guests, a private party room and access to the games, rides and attractions, including bowling and bumper cars. The birthday child receives an inflatable crown and a round in the Ticket Tornado.

Other Parties

Houston is also home to some unique party venues for a variety of special events. The Houston Zoo (houstonzoo.org) offers multiple venues for rent including the reflection pool, reptile house and jaguar exhibit. Catering is provided by the zoo. The Downtown Aquarium (aquariumrestaurants.com/downtownaquariumhouston) offers the Nautilus Ballroom that seats up to 450 people. The 6,000 square foot ballroom includes views of the downtown skyline and a large aquarium in the foyer.
