Small Motels in the Atlantic City Area

by Joe Fletcher

Filled with history and intrigue, Atlantic City is one of the nation's most vibrant gaming destinations. While it will never be Vegas and while competing gaming destinations are sprouting up around the country, Atlantic City has something the others don't: a beautiful seaside location complete with an amusement-lined boardwalk and free beaches. If you're looking to save a little money on a trip here, the city has an abundance of smaller, low-key lodgings.

Most of Atlantic City's lodging, including its smaller, cheaper motels, is concentrated around the Boardwalk, where you'll also find most of the casinos and tourist attractions. The Boardwalk is divided into "upbeach" and "downbeach" sections. The former is home to the Trump Taj Mahal, Showboat and Resorts, while the latter includes such properties as the Tropicana and the Hilton. Other casinos like the Trump Plaza, Bally's Park Place and Caesar's are located in the central portion of the Boardwalk. Attractions like the Boardwalk Hall, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, shopping, and rides and amusements line the Boardwalk from end to end.

The boardwalk may be dominated by the hulking, multi-story casino resorts, but there are also a few motels, smaller and less flashy, that will provide the best access to the boardwalk, beach and gaming of Atlantic City without the heavier price tag of a big hotel. The Super 8 Atlantic City is located a half block from the Boardwalk and is near such casinos as Resorts and Trump Taj Mahal. It has double-queen and king rooms, a seasonal outdoor pool and free SuperStart breakfast. The Rodeway Inn Boardwalk is centrally located, near the Taj Mahal, Caesar's and the Trump Plaza. It has free continental breakfast and high-speed Internet.

Pacific Avenue

While the Boardwalk is more a place for large hotels, Pacific Avenue is lined up and down with motel properties. Just a block away from the Boardwalk you'll enjoy easy walking access to the casinos, beach, shopping and attractions. The Econo Lodge Beach and Boardwalk, which is across the street from the Tropicana and The Quarter, offers a deluxe continental breakfast, plus microwaves and refrigerators in some rooms. More centrally located motel properties on Pacific Avenue include the Rodeway Inn Oceanview, a property with free continental breakfast and free weekday newspapers.

The majority of Atlantic City's casino resorts are located up and down the Boardwalk, but there are three others in the marina area: The Borgota, the Trump Marina and Harrah's. This area of Atlantic City has few lodging properties, and those that are here are larger casino resorts and hotels. However, just a few miles away in Absecon, you'll find other lodging options. The Rodeway Inn in Absecon is located right on US-30 just two miles from casinos like the Borgata. This property will also put you near other attractions like the Absecon Lighthouse.
