Jackson is a medium-sized city in Madison County, Tennessee. Settled in the mid 1800s, the city has expanded markedly, reaching a population of more than 65,000 citizens, as of the 2010 U.S. Census. Roller skaters will appreciate the town's family-friendly roller rink; there are three other skating rinks within a 30-mile radius.

Wheels Roller Skating Rink

The city's only skating rink is Wheels (no website; 120 Bridget Lane, Jacksonville; 910-455-8711), a family-owned joint opened in 1991. The indoor rink offers skating lessons, private parties and arcade games. There is also a skate shop on the premises. Hungry guests are in luck: Wheels has a full concessions stand that serves snacks like hot dogs, pizza and nachos. Often, the rink hosts fun, themed public skate nights.

Pete'eze Skating & Fun Center

Topsail Beach's Pete'eze Skating & Fun Center (no website; 260 Sneads Ferry Road, Topsail Beach; 910-327-2277) -- open since 1994 -- is an indoor rink and kids' party center. An especially original feature of this rink is that it allows skateboarders to skate alongside the traditional inline skates and roller skates. Other fun things at Pete'eze include the arcade games and the lazer tag course. Pete'eze is about 15 miles from Jackson.
