The second of four movies in the series, "High School Musical 2" continues the love story of Troy (Zach Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgins), who are enjoying their summer vacation before they return to East High School for junior year. Directed by Kenny Ortega in 2007, "High School Musical 2" deals with new class and status issues, as Troy has to choose between Vanessa or the pleasures of country club life.

The film begins on the last day of school at East High. Trop and Gabriella are lamenting their lack of cash for the summer, while we learn that Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) will be spending the summer at their father's posh country club. Gabriella has been offered a lifeguarding job at the club, which prompts Sharpay to convince the club's manager to bring on Troy as well. Despite her brother Ryan's dismay, Sharpay thinks she can break the couple up and have Troy for herself.

The Club

With Troy's help, most of the East High Wildcats (as well as the original cast of "High School Musical") join the wait and kitchen staff at the country club. The plucky Kelsi (Olesya Rulin) also gets a job playing piano, which gives her the idea of having the staff perform at the end-of-summer talent show. Meanwhile, Sharpay and Ryan gear up for their usual winning performance at the talent show.

The Betrayal

For the first time in their twin-performing history, Sharpay leaves Ryan on his own for the talent show, going after Troy to win his heart and to persuade him into performing a duet with her. Troy meets Sharpay's family and is given immediate connections to the club, such as a higher-paying salaried position teaching children's golf lessons. The Wildcats and Gabriella are soon forgotten as Sharpay's father lands Troy the chance to practice with the local college basketball team.

The Talent Show

Angered by Troy's behavior, Gabriella breaks up with him a few days before the final talent show. Feeling dejected at his sister's abandonment, Ryan tries to cheer up the Wildcats staff by offering to direct and choreograph their performance in the talent show. As the show nears, Troy decides to try to win the Wildcats back, but he has already promised Sharpay a duet. With some help from Kelsi, he tricks Sharpay and performs a duet with Gabriella in the talent show, winning back his friends in the process.
