Schererville Hotels

by Mary Freeman

Schererville, Indiana, is a largely residential town just 30 minutes from Chicago. Most accommodations are located on or just off of Highway 30 near the intersection of Highways 30 and 41, known as the "Crossroads of the Nation." Ten miles outside of town is a cluster of casinos, and the Schererville itself has 18 parks and is home to the Briarwood Country Club and Scherwood Golf Course. Schererville serves as a budget-friendly base for visitors to Chicago.

Holiday Inn Express

Unlike Schererville's other hotels, the 100-room Holiday Inn Express is off of Highway 30, on Fountain Park Drive. While the hotel is not pet-friendly, it does allow service animals in its five accessible rooms. Guests choose between standard or executive club-level rooms or suites. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast each morning; Teibel's Family Restaurant, which serves classic American cuisine, is one mile away. The hotel has a swimming pool and 24-hour fitness center, with a treadmill, elliptical machine and stationary bike. In addition to the on-site 24-hour business center, the property has a 312-square-foot meeting room. Purdue University-Calumet is just eight miles from the hotel, and Lake Superior is nearby.

HomeTown Inn and Suites

HomeTown Inn and Suites is a small 27-room hotel on Highway 30 that offers executive king rooms with whirlpools, or king kitchenette suites, which include refrigerators and microwaves. A Mobil gas station is adjacent to the hotel, while a gyro shop, with Greek-speaking staff, is nearby. Munster's Center for Visual and Performing Arts is a 15-minute drive away, and Deep Water River Park is a 30-minute drive from the hotel.

Best Western Crossroads Inn

The Best Western has 39 standard rooms and 18 whirlpool or executive suites. This AAA Two-Diamond hotel is pet-friendly and has a heated outdoor pool that is open seasonally. No on-site dining is available, but a Chinese restaurant, Lucky Dragon, and various fast food establishments are nearby. The outdoor parking lot is large enough to accommodate trucks and RVs. Meyer's Castle, a Jacobian Revival mansion that was built in 1929, is three miles from the hotel.

Comfort Inn

The Comfort Inn, located just off of Highway 30, features mostly standard rooms, some with whirlpool bathtubs. The 53-room hotel offers complimentary continental breakfast, bus parking and a fitness center. It is within three miles of the private Briar Ridge Country Club and public Scherwood Golf Course. The Lincoln Ridge Plaza and Crossroads Shopping Centers are located just east of the hotel on Highway 30.
