Scary Halloween Attractions in Texas

Halloween attractions range from the tame to the terrifying. Texas offers some attractions for the holiday that are scary and one that is allegedly truly haunted. These attractions are not haunted hayrides with carved pumpkins. They are places where visitors get thrills and scares from actors who dress as murderers, murder victims, famous Halloween icons, such as Freddy Krueger, and Halloween figures, such as ghosts and witches.


SCREAMS ( is a theme park in Dallas/Forth Worth, Texas. It consists of five areas: the Castle of Darkness, Pirates of Peril Point, the Arcane Asylum, the Death Trap Maze and the Ghoulish Graveyard. These make up the main attractions of the park but there are also actors roaming the rest of the park, the Trail of Terror, rides, shopping and games. The admission price covers the main attractions. Other attractions may have additional fees. SCREAMS is open yearly Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 through Oct. 29.


Terrorplex ( is a group of haunted houses, an outdoor maze and a midway for entertainment, food and shopping. There are four haunted houses at Terrorplex. One has a zombie infection theme, another has a haunted Victorian mansion theme, one is a house of wax and the last is a house of mutant chickens. The Terrorplex is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 23 to Oct. 31 in Mansfield, Texas.


Thrillvania ( is home to Cassandra's Labyrinth of Terror, Granny Lupus' Séance Theatre, Thorn Hall, Six Feet Blunder, Voodoo Bayou, the Maze of Chaos and Dr. Lycan's Trail of Torment. There are scary clowns, swollen brains, vampires, ghosts, a 3D funeral home and a mad scientist at Thrillvania. The park is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 21 to Oct. 31 in Terrell, Texas.

Nightmare on the Bayou

According to the Nightmare on the Bayou website (, this Halloween attraction is "the only haunted house in Houston with Real Ghosts." The site also says that Nightmare on the Bayou is adjacent to the oldest graveyard in Houston. Nightmare on the Bayou opens on Sept. 29 and stays open until Halloween night. Days open change weekly until the week before Halloween, when the park is open all week.

Scream World

Scream World ( is a haunted theme park in Houston, Texas, with five attractions. There is a haunted hotel, a haunted house, a slaughterhouse, a maze and an outdoor path with psychotic inhabitants. Scream World is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning the last Saturday of September. It is open all week during the week leading up to Halloween and closes Halloween night.
