Raleigh, North Carolina, makes a lovely destination for a romantic rendezvous. As the capital of North Carolina, Raleigh boasts many of the attractions of a larger city while maintaining the southern charm found in smaller towns. Couples who come to Raleigh looking for romance won't be disappointed when they see how many things there are to do.

Art Walk

Explore Raleigh while taking in the beauty of the city's public art with a romantic art walk. Take a stroll together through the streets of Raleigh to view the city's permanent pieces of artwork. Stop by Chavis Park and see "Glimpses of the Promised Land," an impressive sculpture by Mike Roig, or head to Fletcher Park to see Harry McDaniel's sculpture, "Redbird." During the evening, swing by the Raleigh Convention Center to appreciate the "Shimmer Wall," an art installation of lights that respond to changes in the wind.

Wining & Dining

With more than 1,000 restaurants to choose from, head out for an intimate dinner in Raleigh. Take part in an ethnic experience when feasting upon fresh sushi and sashimi at Tokyo House (tokyohousesushi.com) or gourmet Indian dishes at Saffron Restaurant and Lounge (saffronnc.com), just outside the city in Morrisville. For a special event like an anniversary, pull out all the stops and treat a loved one to some decadent French cuisine at Saint Jacques (saintjacquesfrenchcuisine.com) or a mouth-watering steak at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar (flemingssteakhouse.com).

Historic Gems

Witness the beauty of Raleigh's historic places together by visiting some of the city's favorite locations. City Market, in downtown, is known for its charming collection of shops, cafes and restaurants (citymarketraleigh.com). Walk hand in hand down the cobblestone streets, window shop and maybe share a kiss under the romantic old-fashioned lanterns that light the way. The gardens at Joel Lane Museum House (joellane.org) or Haywood Hall House (haywoodhall.org) set the scene for a romantic outing. As couples walk down the brick walkways and take in views of blossoming flowers, fruit trees and an arbor woven with vines, it's hard not feel as though they're in heaven.

Spa

Indulge in a day of pure relaxation together by visiting one of Raleigh's luxurious spas. Nestled in the heart of downtown, A Touch Above Massage Therapy (atouchabovemt.com) hosts massage seminars for couples. These 90-minute seminars share useful massage techniques with couples. The tranquil atmosphere of Synergy Spa (feelsynergy.com) makes it an ideal setting for couples massages and a variety of other rejuvenating treatments that are offered by the spa.
