by Nicole Brown, Demand Media

Paducah, Kentucky, is on the banks of the Ohio river and is full of history and surrounded by lush, rolling hills, making it an ideal city for a romantic getaway. Whether you are visiting or you live in Paducah, the city has plenty to offer to couples whatever your tastes.

    Bed-and-Breakfast

Paducah is home to several charming bed-and-breakfast establishments suitable for a romantic weekend getaway. The Fox Briar Inn at Riverplace (foxbriarinn.com/riverplace/index.htm) in downtown Paducah is on the Ohio River. Each room features its own river view. Many of the rooms include eat-in kitchens, separate living areas and original brickwork of the building, which was built in the 1800s. The Paducah Harbor Plaza (phplaza.com) is in the Market House District one block from the Ohio River. The Paducah Harbor Plaza is in the building that was once the L.A. Lagomarsino and the Hotel Belvedere. The bed-and-breakfast's four rooms are furnished in 20th century antique furniture and handmade quilts. Guests have access to a well-stocked kitchen and the continental breakfast served daily.

    For Wine Lovers

Couples who love wine can take a wine-tasting tour of the numerous wineries in the Paducah area. Plan your own wine-tasting tour or let someone do the planning for you and go along for the ride. Winery Tours of Southern Illinois (winerytourssil.com) will plan a half-day or full-day wine tour excursion through the Shawnee Hills Wine Region to wineries including Hogg Hollow, Flint Hill, Shawnee and Bella Terra Wineries. Each tour is different and based your tastes and needs.

    Restaurants with Romance

Paducah is home to plenty of restaurants that will make for a romantic evening out. Max's Brick Oven (maxsbrickoven.com) has a building and decor that is as eclectic as its menu. The restaurant's building was built in 1898 and includes salvaged pieces such as the art deco chandeliers from the former Benton Methodist Church and the staircase railings from the 1963 Carnegie Library fire. The menu features pizzas fired in Max's custom-made wood-burning oven, steaks, seafood and pasta. Max's Brick Oven features an extensive wine list. Cynthia's Ristorante (cynthiasristorante.com/about-us.html) serves Italian-California cuisine in a restaurant decorated with antique tables and chairs, original paintings and a custom-made tile-top bar. Cynthia's prepares all of its breads and pastas on the premises daily. Menus change frequently because Cynthia's sources many of its ingredients from local farms and fishermen. Cynthia's Ristorante also features a full bar and complete wine list to pair with menu offerings.

    Pampering and Relaxation

Relax and refresh as a couple at one of Paducah's day spas. Elysian Fields Massage and Spa (elysianfieldsmassageandspa.com) offers couple's spa packages. Choose packages that last anywhere from two to eight hours and include facials, massages, pedicures and any other service you wish to have included. Elysian includes lunch by Artisan Kitchen in most of their spa packages. Men who are wary of a spa experience need not worry because Elysian features guy-friendly spa services including gentleman's facials, nail care and waxing.
