Located in the northeastern portion of Pennsylvania, the city of Scranton is home to an eclectic and diverse community that is rich in culture. Whether planning that special first date, seeking a private getaway for two or looking for a perfect place to pop the question, the greater Scranton area offers an abundance of romantic hideaways that can be used as backdrops for most any special occasion.

Visit a Winery

Located 12 miles outside of downtown Scranton in the village of Exeter Township, Bartolai Winery (bartolaiwinery.com) hosts an array of festivities and special events throughout the year. In addition to wine and gourmet cheese tasting, the facility offers stuffed olives, sliced peppers and an array of Italian specialty foods.The Scranton suburb of Dallas, located 15 miles from the center of town, is home to the Pavlick Hill Winery (pavlickhill.com). The quaint, family-owned winery opens its doors to wine lovers throughout the year with a series of wine-tasting festivals and events. Guests may sample a variety of wines as they watch the wine being made on the winery's lushly landscaped grounds.

Spa and Massage

Located nine miles from the heart of Scranton in the village of Pittston, the Sapphire Salon and Destination Spa (thesapphiresalon.com) offers pampering services for both men and women. Couples can enjoy the health benefits of a relaxing massage, and feel revived and refreshed after a haircut and therapeutic facial. Also within 20 minutes from the center of downtown in the suburb of Kingston, the J. Picnic in the Park

Picnics are one of the simplest pleasures that a couple can enjoy and can often be one of the most romantic. Located in the heart of Scranton, Nay Aug Park (scrantonpa.gov) is the city's largest public park and offers an array of scenic backdrops for a romantic picnic for two. In addition to lakes and waterfalls, the park offers walking trails and a museum with local artifacts and items of historical interest. Also located in Scranton, Woodlawn Islands community park features lakeside picnic areas, walking trails and lush green space. All Scranton public parks are open to the public free of charge.

Theater

Theatrical performances are also options for couples looking for an evening on the town. Located in Scranton's historic downtown district, the Providence Playhouse (actorscircle.org) offers live theater entertainment and features a variety of programs throughout the year. Renditions of programs such as "Heaven Can Wait" and other classic productions are performed periodically throughout the year. Located six miles from the heart of downtown in the suburb of Duryea, the Phoenix Performing Arts Centre (phoenixpac.vpweb.com) hosts an array of plays, dance performances and live musical performances throughout the year. Programs vary by season, and reservations are advised.
