Romantic Tacoma Hotels

by Lisa Mercer Google

Seattle may overshadow Tacoma as a vacation destination, but Tacoma's hidden neighborhoods with their lush gardens, and Mount Rainier and Puget Sound views offer settings conducive to a romantic weekend retreat. Some Tacoma hotels offer romance packages, which may include wine, champagne, dinner, spa treatments for two and late checkouts.

Modern Romance

Hotel Murano, located near the Tacoma Museum of Glass, has ultra-modern decor and a world-class art collection. Rooms feature bright and bold colors. Management takes a whimsical approach to romance with its "Naughty & Nice" package, which includes wine, champagne or cider served in your room or at the bar, a room with hand-blown glass lamps, breakfast in bed, a late checkout and a special "love box" filled with surprises.

On the Waterfront

The Silver Cloud Inn, Tacoma's only waterfront hotel, boasts a walking pier and a seasonal boat dock. All of its rooms offer views of Commencement Bay. The management offers a romance package, which includes breakfast, a gift basket with luxury bath items, chocolate truffles, champagne and keepsake champagne flutes. Choose a suite for an ultimate splurge. These large rooms have fireplaces, and private hot tubs that overlook the water. Visit the nearby Lobster House for romantic, waterfront dining.

Italy in Tacoma

The Mediterranean architecture of The Villa invokes visions of movies such as "Roman Holiday." Each room is named after an Italian city. Some feature four-poster canopy beds, while others have antique clawfoot tubs. Ornate ceiling fans cool the rooms, and private verandas offer views of elaborate gardens. As of 2010, breakfast is included in the room rate. The Villa, with its grand, dramatic staircase, also is a wedding venue.

Victorian Romance

The Stadium District with its Victorian architecture and Commencement Bay views is one of the most romantic neighborhoods in Tacoma. Chinaberry Hill, built in 1889, is a Stadium District Inn, which embodies the essence of Victorian charm in its decor, and the luxuries of modern conveniences in its amenities. Rooms feature fireplaces, private hot tubs and an extensive video library. Guests have 24-hour access to a kitchen stocked with home-baked cookies, juices, sodas and cocoa. Management occasionally offers special packages for Valentine's Day.
