Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana, has much diversity, providing something for virtually every type of couple. New Year’s Eve is often celebrated by watching fireworks and drinking champagne, but for couples trying something new, there are many romantic getaways in Indianapolis that can make the holiday new again. Regardless of the activity you pick, take time to reflect on the year and get as much alone time as possible with your partner.
Memorable Activities
Think of something memorable that you have done this year that reminds you of what your relationship is all about. New Year’s Eve is an opportunity to reflect on everything that has happened that year and what you love about your relationship. Make sure the activity is something that your partner would want to do again. When you have been to Indianapolis before, consider your most memorable moment while visiting Indianapolis with your partner. If you have never been to Indianapolis before, look up activities that are similar to something memorable you already did. For example, if ice skating is a memorable activity as a couple, consider going ice-skating at the Ellenberger Park Ice Rink (no website; 5301 E. St. Clair St. Indianapolis 317-327-7176), or at Indiana Ice (indianaice.com/).
Seclusion
Instead of watching fireworks or the countdown before the New Year, consider taking your loved one to a campsite where you can be alone, and free from technology. However, check the weather to make sure it will not be too cold during New Year’s Eve. Indianapolis campgrounds include Indy Lakes (indylakes.com), Lake Haven Retreat (lakehavenretreat.com) and Indianapolis KOA (indykoa.com). The Monon Trail (indygreenways.org) runs right through the Indianapolis cultural districts, including the Indianapolis Art Center (indplsartcenter.org). If it’s too cold, consider taking a drive through the countryside. There are plenty of farms surrounding the Indianapolis area.
Romantic Inns
Travel to a romantic inn to spend time together alone. The Old Northside Bed & Breakfast (oldnorthsideinn.com) has themed rooms that will help take you back into the past, with the Hollywood Room, which has a decoupage of World War I sheet music, along with books and details focused on Hollywood and the arts. The Literary Room has decorations designed to reflect great literary works. Think of a story that reminds you of how your relationship went during the past year and incorporate that story into you night.
Romantic Restaurant
The Melting Pot (meltingpot.com) was voted Indianapolis’s most romantic restaurant on the Indy Channel. This restaurant is open on New Year’s Eve and has many romantic options, including chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. They are also known for their specialty fondue. Enjoy your dinner and recap on the year, remembering your most meaningful moments.
