Romantic accommodations in the Central New York region are primarily comprised of small, family-run inns or bed and breakfasts. These properties are usually tucked away in a picturesque rural setting, beset by natural lakes and woodlands, or situated in the suburbs of a metropolitan area for those who want an array of date night options. Also, guests are often pampered with individually decorated rooms for two, luxury amenities and fresh local cuisine as well as personalized services and attention.

Rogue's Harbor Inn

Rogue's Harbor Inn, first built in 1835, is nestled along the scenic Cayuga Wine Trail, with points of interest like Cayuga Lake, Buttermilk Falls and the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course just minutes away. The property is open year-round and features chestnut wainscoting, pressed tin ceilings and a romantic 19th-century ballroom that can accommodate large wedding receptions or small intimate gatherings. A full hot breakfast is included with the room rate, and al fresco dining on the outdoor veranda is an option during warmer months. The dining room/pub has an extensive wine list, live music on Thursdays, and dinner entrees like poached salmon and slow-roasted prime rib. Guest rooms combine period antiques with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, gas fireplaces and private baths with soaking tubs. Some rooms also have heavy oak furniture and king-size wrought-iron beds. Group and extended stay discounts are available on request.

Friends Lake Inn

Friends Lake Inn sits in the heart of the Adirondacks, overlooking a pristine freshwater lake surrounded by pines. Plentiful skiing is 15 minutes away at Gore Mountain, while summertime activities range from hiking and biking to rafting and kayaking. Guests can enjoy a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer or participate in a tasting in the inn's wine cellar year-round, which features more than 25,000 bottles and has won "Wine Spectator" magazine's coveted Grand Award since 1997. The dining hall captures the spirit of the 1800s while serving modern American cuisine along with an international dessert menu. A majority of the guest rooms are outfitted with a Jacuzzi, fireplace, and private balcony offering scenic lake or mountain views. The romance package comes with a full country breakfast, picnic lunch and three-course candlelit dinner for two each evening, chocolate-covered strawberries, sparkling wine, complimentary bathrobes to take home, and rose petals strewn across the bed upon arrival.

Rosehaven Inn: A Hunter Mountain B&B

Rosehaven Inn is located in the Catskills near Hunter Mountain, well known for its world-class skiing, snowboarding and fly-fishing. In addition, the Victorian-style property provides convenient access to nature trails around Kaaterskill Falls and horseback riding through Bear Creek Landing. Guests can make use of a 360-degree wrap-around porch with handcrafted outdoor furniture or an indoor sitting room with tiled fireplace. Detailed Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper lines much of the inn's interior, including a charming entertainment room with a mahogany bar, game table and small library. A breakfast complete with fresh fruit, eggs and French toast is served each morning in the country-style dining room to the sounds of classical music. Every guest room offers a unique decor, hardwood floors and modern amenities like satellite TV, DVD player and mini-bar. Romantic couples can also request special extras such as chocolate truffles, one-hour in-room massages and fresh flower bouquets.

The Bed and Breakfast Wellington

The Tudor-style Bed and Breakfast Wellington, built in 1914, is situated near area attractions like the New York State Fair, Rosamond Gifford Burnet Park Zoo and Everson Museum of Art. Complimentary drinks are available all day every day, and guests are invited to enjoy them in front of the lobby fireplace or on one of two outdoor porches. Other amenities include a one-of-a-kind chess board, antique book collection and complimentary continental breakfast with homemade baked goods served each morning. All guest rooms feature climate controls, Wi-Fi access, cable TVs with VCRs and private porcelain-tiled bathrooms. One room offers a queen-size high sleigh bed and views of Onondaga Lake, while another features a mahogany writing desk and oriental carpeting, and yet another contains an efficiency kitchen and dining area. This 100 percent smoke-free property was also a finalist for the prestigious "Bed and Breakfast of Distinction" award in 2006 by the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association.
