Romantic Attractions Near Elkins, West Virginia

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find lots to do in Elkins, West Virginia. Elkins is near the Monongahela National Forest and less than 50 miles from major ski lodges, such as the Lodge at Kelly Mountain (lodgeatkellymtn.com), Canaan Valley Resort (canaanresort.com) and the Timberline Four Seasons Resort (timberlineresort.com).

Inns and Lodges

The Graceland Inn (gracelandinn.com) is an historic, restored Victorian mansion. The inn offers fine dining and elegant antique and reproduction Victorian-era room furnishings. The Cheat River Lodge (cheatriverlodge.com) has six private rooms, each with a king size bed and a large picture windows overlooking the Cheat River.

Cabin Rentals

Sit by a fire in the winter, take in the colorful foliage in late autumn, or sip a glass of wine on the cool cabin deck in the summer. The New Tygart Flyer Scenic Train (mountainrailwv.com) departs from Elkins daily at 11 a.m. for a four-hour, 46-mile round trip tour of the West Virginia mountains and the Tygart River. The train has comfortable climate-controlled cars and serves lunch or dinner. A 1920s Pullman Palace car is available for couples that prefer old fashioned comfort and a cold lunch with alcoholic drinks.

Nature Walks

The Stewart Recreational Area has hiking and walking trails, and more than 25 spots for a quiet picnic in a natural setting. Bickle Knob Observation Tower in the Monongahela National Forest offers a panoramic view of the vast West Virginia mountains. Couples can take in the quiet of the woods, unimpeded views of the mountains and spend time alone in the forest.
