The city of Atlanta has several great rock climbing gyms that offer classes and recreational opportunities for beginning to advanced climbers of all ages. To select a climbing gym, consider the location, the height of the walls and amount of climbing surface and whether the gym offers additional activities and programs that interest your family.

Atlanta Rocks!

Atlanta Rocks! ( is a large, popular indoor rock climbing gym located two miles north of downtown Atlanta. It has over 12,000 square feet of climbing surfaces, including over 15 top rope stations, several overhung lead climbs and bouldering space. Top rope climbs are available for climbers of all levels. The gym offers classes, summer camps, birthday parties, ladies and family nights, and a competitive youth climbing team. Daily rates and monthly and yearly memberships are available.

Georgia Tech Campus Recreation

The Campus Recreation Center on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology ( has an indoor rock climbing wall on the first floor adjacent to the fitness center, where 2,000 square feet of climbing surfaces extend 39 feet from the ground. The wall is open to all members of the CRC, including all full-time students and alumni, faculty and family members who sign up and pay a monthly fee. The gym offers climbing classes and gear rental. Groups or organizations can rent the space for special events.

Stone Summit Climbing and Fitness

Stone Summit (, located at the intersection of I-85 and 285 in northeastern Atlanta, considers itself the largest rock climbing gym in the nation. Walls extend up to 60 feet from the ground. The gym offers classes to climbers at all levels and is home to four different competitive kids climbing teams led by Claudiu Vidulescu, coach of the US Youth National Team. Day passes, punch cards and monthly and yearly memberships are available. All admissions include access to the gym's yoga and spin classes, cardio and strength equipment, and full-service locker rooms.

Wall Crawler Climbing Gym

Wall Crawlers (, located on Dekalb Avenue on Atlanta's east side, has over 8,800 square feet of climbing surfaces. The gym offers indoor and outdoor classes at a variety of levels while maintaining a friendly, relaxed, educational atmosphere. The gym runs a variety of programs for kids, including after-school climbing, climbing pre-school, competitive team practices and summer camp. Climbers can access the wall by paying a daily rate or purchasing punch cards or memberships. Discounts are available for students and on Wednesday's Ladies Night.
