The north shore of Lake Erie, an expansive region of Ontario, Canada, attracts visitors with its unspoiled scenery, abundant wildlife and plentiful opportunities for outdoor recreation. The majority of accommodation options in the region are campsites and RV parks, but several resorts both on the lakefront and in towns close to Lake Erie offer hotel-style rooms or self-catering cottages. Some are quiet retreats with cozy rooms in undeveloped scenic spots; others are designed for families and provide all manner of activities on site.

AtPlay Adventures Vacation Resort

The AtPlay Adventures Vacation Resort boasts a spectacular location at Long Point, a narrow strip of land jutting into Lake Erie that is protected as a National Wildlife Area and designated by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. As an important migratory bird habitat, the resort, which offers the only accommodations on Long Point, attracts bird watchers as well as vacationers seeking opportunities for fishing, boating, horseback riding, canoeing and biking. Guests have a choice of lake-view guest rooms and suites or private cottages for two, four or six. Rooms and suites feature bright, contemporary decor and include a bar fridge and a flat-screen television. The bay-side cottages have fully equipped kitchens with high-end appliances, La-Z-Boy furniture in the great room and a patio area with a gas barbecue grill.

Sherkston Shores Beach Resort and Campground

Sherkston Shores Beach Resort and Campground on the northern shore of Lake Erie is a 560-acre property with more than 2 1/2 miles of sandy lakefront beaches. In addition to its campsites, RV sites and vacation homes, the resort features two outdoor heated pools with water slides and hot tubs, a nine-hole pitch-and-putt golf course and an 18-hole mini-golf course, tennis and basketball courts, and a skateboard park. The resort also offers a lakeside restaurant, pizza restaurant and poolside cocktail bar. Vacation homes available for rent have one or two bedrooms, a full kitchen and an outdoor deck with a firepit and picnic table.

Maple Court Cottages

Maple Court Cottages offers cabins, bungalows with two or three bedrooms and two-bedroom cottages, all overlooking Lake Erie. The premier lodging option is a 1,100-square-foot brick bungalow on the lake shore with a private backyard patio, laundry room and recreation room. All units feature kitchens; small dining rooms and living rooms; screened porch; and deck with charcoal barbecue, picnic table and firepit. The cottage resort is located in a quiet countryside area, but the small, picturesque town of Port Dover is only 2 1/2miles away.

Bay Shore Cottages

Bay Shore Cottages, a half-acre vacation resort in Port Dover, Ontario, offers six guest cottages, each with two bedrooms, and a two-bedroom suite in the historic main home. Every cottage accommodates up to six guests and features a full kitchen, gas fireplace and cable television. The suite sleeps up to four and offers a large balcony with views of Lake Erie. Propane for the barbecue and firewood for the firepit are both supplied for the cottages, but bedding and towels are not. A pier, beaches and numerous restaurants, bars and entertainment options are found within a short walk of the resort. A play set and picnic tables are provided within the property's landscaped lawns and gardens.
