Picking your own produce is a fun activity that can even help you save money. U-pick fruits and vegetables cost only a fraction of what they would at a traditional grocery store, and they're much fresher to boot. There are a few farms in and around Payson that offer raspberry picking, so grab a bucket and start picking.

The Raspberry Patch

The Raspberry Patch is located at the base of West Mountain just outside of Payson. It's the only farm dedicated solely to raspberries in the area, so you can be sure that the owners know their berries. The red raspberries at this farm are in season in autumn, so head out there during September or October. Picking hours are from 7 a.m. until dusk every day except Sunday. Raspberries cost only $2 per pound to pick, but you must bring your own containers to gather the fruit. Call or email The Raspberry Patch at (801) 465-4284 or Amy@Westmountainraspberries.com. The farm is located at 5781 West and 11450 South in Payson. Visit www.theraspberrypatch.com for directions.

Picking hours are between 8 a.m. and noon and then again from 5 p.m. to dusk on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays, as well as Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to noon. However, blackberry and raspberry picking is by appointment only, so be sure to call a few days in advance. You can call Phelps Berry Farm at (801) 465-4408 or email at ShaunAPhelps@gmail.com.
