Public Swimming Pools in Cherokee County, Georgia

by Ian Farquharson, Demand Media

Swimming provides an enjoyable way to keep in shape and have some fun, with a public pool a useful amenity for a community to have. Northern Georgia's Cherokee County, named after the Native American Cherokee tribe that once lived on the land, has public pools available for residents. Located in cities such as Woodstock and Canton, these provide swimming opportunities for anyone to enjoy.

    Woodstock Aquatic Center

The Woodstock Aquatic Center, run by Chattahoochee Gold Swimming Club (goldswim.com), opened in 1996 as a training center for competitors in the Atlanta Olympic Games. Located in the city of Woodstock, in southern Cherokee County, the single pool has both 25-meter lanes and 50-meter lanes available. Further work in 2004 added a retractable roof over the 50-meter lanes to fully enclose the pool. The facility offers year-round swimming lessons for all ages, from 6 months to adult, as well as having a swim team and professional coaches for youngsters.

    Gold's Gym

Gold's Gym (goldsgym.com), located in the city of Woodstock, has an indoor swimming pool available for public use. The pool is 25 meters in length and is available throughout the week for adult fitness swimming purposes. A designated family swim area becomes available during the afternoon each day, with this available for children and families to have some recreational water fun.

    G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA

The G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA (ymcapass.com) forms part of the Metro Atlanta YMCA, with the center located in Canton. The YMCA has an indoor 25-meter pool, as well as a large outdoor pool complex, which opens from May to September. The facility offers swimming lessons for all ages, as well as community classes teaching lifeguard and basic water-rescue techniques. Amenities at the outdoor pool include a water slide, current channel and diving pool.

    Mountain Park City Pool

Although officially in Fulton County, the city of Mountain Park actually crosses the border into Cherokee County, with a small section of the city running into southern Cherokee County land. The public swimming pool in Mountain Park (mountainpark-ga.gov) accommodates both city residents and nonresidents, allowing Cherokee County residents to use it. The 25-meter pool is an outdoor seasonal amenity, with those looking to swim in it having to purchase a daily or seasonal pass to gain access.
