Its fastest plan is the Elite package, offering download speeds of 6 Mbps and upstream speeds of 768 Kbps for $40.00 per month.

Verizon

Verizon not only is the nation's largest cellular phone provider, but also offers a wide range of DSL services, including the very fast FiOS service. Its base-level package is the Starter Plan, which offers download speeds of up to 1 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384 Kbps for $19.95 per month. The fastest service is the Tier 3 FiOS Internet, which offers up to 50 Mbps download speeds and up to 20 Mbps upload speeds for $139.95 per month.

Earthlink

Earthlink offers a broad range of Internet services from dial-up to satellite service. It offers one DSL package, which is reasonably priced. For $14.95 a month (for the first three months), you can get download speeds up to 6 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 1 Mbps.

CenturyLink

CenturyLink provides DSL, entertainment and voice services in 33 states via CenturyTel. Its basic package is the 256 Kbps Regular plan, which provides download speeds up to 256 Kbps for $24.95 per month. The top tier package is the 3.0 Mbps Extreme package, which provides download speeds up to 3.0 Mbps.

Windstream

Windstream is a large, national provider of telecommunications services across the United States. DSL Extreme
