Located on the northern tip of Mustang Island, Port Aransas, Texas, has miles of white-sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Popular with vacationers, fishing enthusiasts and spring-breakers, the town has a year-round population of about 3,500. Hotel and motel accommodations in Port Aransas are relatively limited in number, so it’s a good idea to plan well in advance to guarantee your accommodations.

In the heart of the Port Aransas business district and only a few blocks from the beach, this modest, 25-unit motel offers reasonably priced accommodations and a small outdoor swimming pool. Its location in downtown Port Aransas puts guests within easy walking distance of several restaurants, including Island Cafe & Smokehouse, Moby Dick’s, Suphachi Tiya and Thaiphoon Restaurant.

Beach Gate CondoSuites & Motel

Right on the beach, this four-story, 65-unit hostelry has a combination of condo-size suites, ideal for extended stays or family groups, as well as standard-size motel units. All condo units have full kitchens, and motel efficiency units have mini-kitchens. Facilities include two swimming pools, hot tubs, and shuffleboard and volleyball courts. Nearby eateries are Little Joe’s Smoke ‘n’ Grill, Port “A” Pizzeria and Taqueria San Juan.

Best Western Ocean Villa Inn

This two-story, 48-unit motel, two blocks from the beach, offers microwaves, refrigerators and high-speed Internet in all of its rooms and suites. Other facilities and services include an outdoor swimming pool, game room and complimentary continental breakfast. Nearby restaurants include Burrito Shack, Cancun Grill, and Shells Pasta and Seafood.

Days Inn Port Aransas

Only a block from the beach, this motel boasts oversized rooms -- averaging 480 square feet each -- that feature microwaves, refrigerators, dining tables and high-speed Internet. An Arnold Palmer-designed golf course lies within walking distance of the motel, which also offers an outdoor swimming pool, barbecue/picnic area and complimentary breakfast.

Harbor Inn on Mustang Island

Owned and operated by pilots Jay and Mary Honeck, this 23-unit motel is a smart choice for bargain-minded travelers. The Honecks provide not only clean and comfortable accommodations for reasonable rates, but also throw in a number of extras, including flat-screen HDTVs, clock radios with iPod docking stations, barbecue/picnic area, a swimming pool and hot tub.

Holiday Inn Express Port Aransas

Just a short walk from the Gulf, this three-story, 74-unit hotel treats its guests to a hot breakfast buffet each morning. All rooms and suites have microwaves, mini-bars and compact refrigerators, as well as wireless Internet, which is also available in all common areas of the hotel. Other facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, kiddie pool, hot tub and fitness center. Nearby restaurants include Little Joe’s Smoke ‘n’ Grill, Moby Dick’s, and Shell’s Pasta and Seafood.

Family groups or visitors planning an extended stay may want to consider this all-suites hotel, which offers some kitchen facilities in all 52 of its units.
