Pool halls offer a place to relax after work or during the weekend, play a game of pool with friends and, at many pool halls, enjoy a drink or play a game of darts or arcade games. Maryland's major metropolitan areas are full of pool halls for recreational and competitive pool players.

For pool players who enjoy a loud setting with loud music and big screen TVs broadcasting big games, Wild Willy's Rock House & Sports Saloon (wildwillyssaloon.com) is the place to play in Annapolis. Wild Willy's offers a full menu of appetizers, wings, burgers and pizzas and a daily happy hour from 11:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. For a more family-friendly environment, Dave & Buster's (daveandbusters.com) offers billiards in its arcade for parents to play while children enjoy other games. Other pool halls include TK Sharky's (no website; 2072 Somerville Rd., Annapolis; 410-841-5599) and Pocket's Family Billiards (no website; 2 Aberdeen Plz., Annapolis; 410-273-7665).

Baltimore is Maryland's largest city and home to multiple pool halls including VIP Billiards (vipbilliards.net), a 25 table, family-friendly, alcohol and smoking free pool hall. In addition to its family-friendly environment, VIP Billiards holds regular tournaments for pool players with a competitive spirit. For the 21 and over crowd, Ropewalk (ropewalktavern.com), a tavern in the Federal Hill neighborhood offers drinks and recreational pool playing. Roland Billiards (no website; 428 E. 25th St., Baltimore; 410-235-5958) is another pool hall for the 21 and over crowd which offers drink specials and deals on games.

While Columbia is the second largest city in Maryland, it is not known for its pool halls. Nottingham's (nottinghams.net), a tavern in Columbia, is the only pool hall in Columbia. Along with billiards, customers are able to enjoy live music, play darts, Wii games and shuffleboard, and enjoy the tavern's comedy club and outdoor tiki bar.

Silver Spring

Silver Spring is home to Galaxy Billiards Cafe (no website; 8661 Colesville Rd. Ste A-104, Silver Spring; 301-495-0081), which offers a full bar with drink specials, TVs showing popular games and pool tables. Also in Silver Springs, Babes Sports Bar and Grill (babessportsbars.com) offers three designated entertainment areas, with the lower level, "Babes Down Under" dedicated to pool playing and ping-pong. Legends Billiards & Cafe (no website; 11317 Elkin St., Silver Spring; 301-946-3243) is a nonsmoking bar and pool hall near the Wheaton area of Silver Spring.
