by Nicole Brown

New York City is a surprisingly kid-friendly city. With parks, museums, play groups and a plethora of top-notch schools, New York City is a great place to raise children. If you are looking for a place to celebrate your toddler's birthday, you will find no end to the number toddler-friendly venues that will make your child's day memorable.

Fun and Learning

Incorporate fun and learning by having your toddler's birthday at one of these education-based venues. The Scholastic Store (scholastic.com/sohostore) in SoHo features birthday parties in the Imagination Clubhouse that incorporate reading and fun. For toddlers, parents can choose from themes including Animal Parade, Clifford's BIG Birthday Bash, Farm Fun and Extreme Racer. Parties are 90 minutes long and include a party planner, two hosts, story time, a take-home craft, music, dancing and games and cupcakes and juice. The Children's Museum of the Arts (cmany.org) offers a variety of children's birthday parties suitable for the toddler-age set. Have a birthday breakfast party on Saturday and Sunday mornings with fruit and bagels or afternoon or evening party which includes catered meals. Every party includes art projects, full access to the museum, a party host and private party room.

For the Active Toddler

If you have an especially active toddler, these venues will let them get all of their energy out in a safe and exciting environment. Chelsea Piers Field House (chelseapiers.com) tailors birthday parties to specific age groups. For a second birthday, Chelsea Piers offers a party at the Toddler Adventure Center; which is a state-of-the-art indoor play center tailored to the needs of small children. Along with time in the play center, instructors who are assigned to your personal party organize games and sing-alongs. Chelsea Piers also provides the cake, food, decorations and invitations. The New York Kids Club (nykidsclub.com) has six locations throughout New York City that provide child enrichment through movement and creative thinking. Each facility offers birthday parties that are toddler-appropriate and include gymnastics and dancing instruction and play that allow creative juices and energy to flow. Parties also include a private party room, food and drinks, a birthday cake and decorations.

Music, Play and More

If you want your child stimulated on multiple levels, these venues incorporate music, play and more. Apple Seeds (appleseedsnyc.com) is a kid-friendly play center where children can run and play, participate in arts and crafts and learn about music. A birthday party at Apple Seeds includes toddler-friendly themes such as: Welcome to the Jungle, which includes animal songs and games, animal yoga and mask decorating; All About Music, where children decorate their own instruments and perform in a marching band; and a Princesses and Pirates Costume Party, where children decorate swords and wands and walk the plank. Each party includes free play time, a private party room and a custom birthday cake. Gymboree Music and Play (gymboreeclasses.com) has multiple locations throughout New York City and features music and play programs for children of all ages. Gymboree Music and Play will cater a birthday party to suit your child's age group. Parents can choose from themes like Farmyard Fun, Ocean Adventure, Jungle Safari and Music Party. In 90 minutes, children will tumble and play, sing songs and celebrate with gifts and cake in a themed party area.

Everything Else

If you still haven't found something that will interest your toddler on her birthday, there are several more venues to consider. Creative Dream Parties (creativedreamparties.com) features all-inclusive themed parties in their 3000-square-foot party space. For toddlers, parents can choose from themes like Glamour Tea Party, Superhero Adventure, Arts and Crafts, Medieval Magic and Craaazy Carnival. A themed party lasts 90 minutes and includes a welcoming bubble machine, personalized birthday cake, invitations, pizza and drinks, games, dancing and, of course, set up and clean up. Moon Soup (moonsoup.net) is an interactive learning center that features classes and events for parents and toddlers that celebrate music, creativity, imagination and fun. A party at Moon Soup includes a party leader who will entertain children with games, crafts, dance and music, a party host to greet guests and take care of set-up and clean-up, invitations, decorations, pizza and drinks. If you want a more do-it-yourself approach, Moon Soup will rent out their space so parents can do it all themselves.
