Places to Throw a Party in Syracuse

by Shelby Winchell

Syracuse is in the geographic center of New York, east of Rochester and west of Albany, on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. With more than 140,000 residents, Syracuse has a variety of venues to host both large and small private parties. Once you have chosen the environment that's right for your party, start planning!

The Unusual

Roll out the red carpet at the Palace Theater. This old movie theater opened in 1922 and features both orchestra and balcony seating. You can hold a viewing party on the theater's big screen. Use the concession area to serve popcorn, candy and soft drinks to your guests. Located in the Eastwood section of Syracuse, the Palace Theater can accommodate groups as small as 60 to 800 people. At Alliance Bank Stadium, the home of the Syracuse Chiefs baseball team, the Hank Sauer Room hosts private parties.

Restaurants

Hold your next private party at a restaurant like Phoebe's, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, The Spaghetti Warehouse, Empire Brewing Company or Coleman's Irish Pub. Several restaurants can accommodate small and large parties in a private banquet room, away from the main dining area. You also can customize your party menu with a select number of dishes to fit your budget.

For Kids

Entertain your youngest guests by throwing a party at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The zoo specializes in children's birthday parties and offers three different party packages complete with zoo admission, food, a cake and party favors. Let the kids run wild at the Museum of Science and Technology. Located in Armory Square, the MOST features several exhibits for school-aged children and also has an IMAX theater that often shows movies in 3-D.

Hotels

Host a party in a ballroom or meeting room at one of Syracuse's hotels. Hotels like the Genesee Grande Hotel, Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and the Doubletree Hotel in East Syracuse have an event planner on staff who can help you pick out on a menu, pick floral arrangements, make seating charts, stuff gift bags and create a schedule for your party. Out-of-town guests also can stay at the hotel before and after your event.
