No matter where you live in Connecticut, fun options are available for your teen's big day. Interstate 91, running from New Haven up through Hartford and up into Massachusetts, is a corridor offering access to many of the state's options. New London and Norwich, near Rhode Island, and Danbury, near New York State, are also close to several party venues. During the summer, you'll find that many venues are booked early, while some of the ice skating rinks don't offer birthday party rentals during the warmest months.

Bowling Alleys

Many teenagers enjoy a night of bowling and video games, and a party at a bowling alley with an arcade may be the perfect fit for your son and his friends. Packages include hot dogs or pizza as well as tokens for the arcade. Some Connecticut bowling alleys offering parties include the AMF Milford Lanes in Milford (amf.com), The Alley (no website; 572 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT 06105; 860-233-5855), and Thomaston Lanes, in Thomaston (thomastonlanes.com).

Ice Skating Rinks

If your teen is into ice-skating, a party at the rink might be a great way to celebrate her birthday. The Veteran's Memorial Ice Skating Rink in Hartford (skatevmsr.com) offers birthday party packages in the fall, winter and spring. The most basic package includes admission to the rink and the use of a party room -- you are permitted to bring in a cake, but no other food or drink. Other rinks in Connecticut that offer birthday party rentals include the Danbury Ice Arena (danburyice.com), in Danbury and the Northford Ice Pavilion (northfordice.com), in Northford. If you want an outdoor rink for your winter birthday party, you can rent out the Simsbury Farms Recreational Center's ice rink (no website; 100 Old Farms Road, Simsbury, CT 06070; 860-658-3836).

Indoor Game Centers

If your teenager plays a variety of indoor sports, venues such as Dadd's (dadds.net) in West Haven may be a good choice. The facility offers miniature golf, laser tag, go-kart racing, a paintball target range, batting cages and a full video arcade. You're allowed to bring in your own food and beverages, although you can buy a cake from Dadd's if you don't want to get your own. Other similar venues offering birthday rentals include Nomads Adventure Quest (nomadsadventurequest.com) in South Windsor and the GolfQuest Family Sports Center (golfquestranges.com), with locations in Southington and Brookfield.

Other Types of Parties

Your teen may want something different for her big celebration. If she loves horses and other animals, Flamig Farms (flamigfarm.com) offers your teen the chance to host a trip through the on-site zoo and then lead a pony or tractor ride. If your teen is a big gamer, you can hire the Gamers Box (thegamersbox.com) to come to your home for a party. Up to eight teens can clamber inside a trailer outfitted with eight Xbox 360 systems and play a game together, either competing or helping each other out. If your teen wants to take some friends to an amusement park, Lake Compounce Family Theme Park (lakecompounce.com) in Bristol has roller coasters, water rides and easier thrill rides, offering discounts for groups of 25 or more.
