Because they are high in fiber and low in calories, they make a tasty treat for those keeping an eye on their diets. Instead of purchasing apples sold at the store, you can find a farm or orchard that allows you to pick your own from their trees.

Lockbriar Farms

Lockbriar Farms grows many fruits for you to pick, including apples. In fact, 19 varieties of apples grow on Lockbriar Farms, including Ginger Gold, Fuji and Granny Smith, as well as other less-known varieties. The varieties of apples growing on the farm depends on the time of the apple growing season. Some tree varieties on the farm fruit earlier in the season, while other don't fruit until apple season is nearly ending. The farm is located at in eastern Maryland, in Kent county. White Marsh Orchard

You'll find White Marsh Orchard in eastern Maryland in Queen Anne's county. This grower tries to minimize the amount of pesticides and chemicals they use on their fruit, taking a more natural approach to growing produce. Over 50 varieties of fruit trees grow at White Marsh Orchard. They are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays they open at 7 a.m. and close at noon. Gardenhour Orchards

Gardenhour Orchards is a four generation family orchard started by Boaz Gardenhour in the 1890's. Today, it offers many types of fruits and vegetables to pick yourself, including Stayman, Rome, York and five other varieties of apples. Gardenhour Orchards is located north of the town Smithsburg in Maryland, at 2251 Gardenhour Road. They are open seasonally, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Sundays. Blades Orchard

Blades Orchard is located in Caroline county, at 4822 Preston Road in Federalsburg, Maryland. Blades Orchard cultivates many kinds of fruits and vegetables, which is treated with minimal pesticides and other chemicals. This large orchard has its own market, so you can browse the large selection of produce available. You can also pick your own produce, like apples.
