Places to Go Party for New Year's in Kentucky

by Nicole Devlin

New Year's is a holiday where many people choose to party and let loose a little, even if they are the most committed introvert. If a person happens to be in Kentucky for the event, they have several places from which to choose where they can let their hair down and have some fun. Whether they prefer shopping, a romantic night out with a loved one or a fun, dance-filled evening with friends, Kentucky is a convenient place to be on New Year's.

State Resort Parks

Several state parks across the state of Kentucky host events on December 31 for residents and guests alike to enjoy while ringing in the new year. Parks include Blue Licks Battlefield, Cumberland Falls, Kentucky Dam Village and Pennyrile Forest. Events vary depending on the park, and include live music, dancing and dining. Some parks are also home to lodges which provide special new year's rates for guests who plan to stay the night.

Steamboat Tours

The Belle of Louisville and the Spirit of Jefferson, two steamboats originally built in the early 1900s, currently take guests on sightseeing cruises on the Ohio River from the port in Louisville. For New Year's Eve, party goers have a choice between an early dinner or the late night bash that keeps guests out on the water until 1 a.m. Meals are included for both cruises, and the late night bash includes party favors and complimentary champagne for a toast at midnight. The company typically only runs one of the steamboats on New Year's Eve, with the same boat being used for both the early event and the midnight bash. Reservations are required for these events.

Kentucky Flea Market

The Kentucky Flea Market has a New Year's Extravaganza spanning four days over New Year's weekend. There are special rates for vendors and admission is free to the public. The New Year's show features over 1,200 vendors, including a special antiques section. The Kentucky Flea Market takes place at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville.

Marquise Banquet and Conference Center

The Marquise Banquet and Conference Center located in Pikeville hosts a dinner buffet and champagne toast on New Year's Eve. There's also an open bar and live music for guests who wish to imbibe and dance to bring in the new year. Light appetizers are also available.
