Evansville, located on the Ohio River, is the largest city in Southern Indiana. The location of the "River City" and metropolitan feel make it ideal for indoor and outdoor weddings of different kinds. Evansville is home to several natural parks and nature preserves as well as vintage venues that have been around since shortly after settlement 200 years ago.
The Bauerhaus Grove (thebauerhaus.com) has been in the hands of the Bauer family since Michael Bauer came to Indiana from Germany in 1880. This land exists today to host a myriad of events, from weddings to corporate gatherings. When having your wedding at Bauerhaus, you can choose between multiple packages with different features and price ranges. You have access to a full menu, full bar services, wedding cakes, transportation, lighting, music, a florist and a photographer, among other services. There is an indoor and outdoor reception hall, and the couple can choose to hold each part of the ceremony outdoors in the groves or in the interior of the Bauerhaus mansion.
Evansville Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden
The Evansville Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden (meskerparkzoo.com) is home to more than 700 animals, thousands of botanic species and an indoor rainforest. This zoo has been up and running since 1928 and now offers expanded services, such as hosting wedding ceremonies and other parties. Depending on the size of your guest list, you will be able to hold your wedding in different parts of the zoo with access to some of the animal cages and exhibits. The couple works with zoo staff to decide upon the best location, then wedding guests have access to that area after regular business hours while the wedding goes on.
The Victory Theatre (no website; 600 Main St, Evansville; 812-435-6287) has existed since the 1920s and retains almost all of its original architecture, though it has been extensively renovated. The theatre regularly showcases the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, concerts, plays and children's entertainment. This theatre is located downtown on the nostalgic cobblestone walkway. The couple can choose to hold the marriage ceremony in several locations in the theatre, then have their reception in the 200-seat banquet room.
West Haven Chalet and Banquet Hall
The West Haven Chalet and Banquet Hall (westhavenchalet.com) showcases rustic German architecture and 20-acres of park-like land. Features include a capacity for 350 guests, a large dance floor, full decorations, large stone fireplaces, decorated outdoor gazebos, full bar services and a bartender, setup and cleanup and a fully staffed event. The couple gets married outdoors underneath the shelter of a gazebo and the reception takes place indoors.
