by Kristin Jennifer, Demand Media

Three-year-olds can be difficult to please at birthday time but have hope! There are a few great places scattered throughout Illinois that cater to your tot's short attention span, her need to explore and her belief she's a princess. Although a majority of the places that cater to toddlers are concentrated in the Chicagoland area, a few places that will please your daughter can be found scattered throughout the state .

    Chicagoland Area

In the Windy City, Fantasy Kingdom (fantasykingdom.org) caters to children 6 and under with giant castles, dress-up items and child-sized stores. Princess parties, featuring your daughter's favorite princess, are offered along with other birthday party packages. Birthday packages are offered in private and semi-private options. Monkey Zone (mpmonkeyzone.com), in Melrose Park, offers bouncy, trouncy fun with air castles and mazes. Pizza and pop are offered with birthday packages. Monkey Island (playmonkeyisland.net), also in Melrose Park, offers indoor playground activities for children 2-12 so that older cousins and family friends will have fun at your daughter's party, too.

    Mid-State

The Miller Park Zoo (cityblm.org) hosts birthday parties. Your daughter and her guests will enjoy riding on the carousel and seeing the fuzzy animals. A covered picnic area can be rented outside for two hours or you may rent an indoor classroom for party use. Chuck E. Cheese's (chuckecheese.com), located in both Peoria and Bloomington, offers games for all ages. Parents can reserve a party with a table and balloons or simply grab a table and order a pizza depending on the size of the party. Kickapoo State Park (no website; 10906 Kickapoo Park Road, Oakwood; 217-442-4915) gives children plenty of room to play in the grass and engage in yard games with older kids and adults. Parties can be held on any open picnic table.

    Western State

Rialto Cinemas (earlann.net/rialtocinemas.html), in Macomb, offers a venue for birthday parties. Three-year olds will enjoy the latest children's animated movie after opening presents. Parties must be booked in advance. Mid-state Gymnastics Academy (midstategymnastics.com), in Springfield, offers a venue for a 3-year old's birthday party. The venue sends out the invitations and provides one hour of fun on inflatables. Children will enjoy somersaulting and tumbling around the room.

    Southern Area

Breezy Hill Farm (breezyhillfarm.net), in Benton, offers berry picking, hay rides and a petting zoo for small children. The petting zoo includes llamas, ponies and sheep. The farm is open periodically through the year so call early to book your party. Across the state line, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the Children's Discovery Playhouse (discoveryplayhouse.org) hosts birthday parties for children as young as 3. Pollywog pond, the arts zone, sand tables and a climbable firetruck are just a few of the items your 3-year-old will enjoy. Parties may be booked Tuesday through Sunday. Rates are cheaper for members.
