Places to Dance in Bakersfield, California

by Michael Monet, Demand Media

The location of Bakersfield, California at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley makes it hot and dry in the summer and cold and wet in the brief winters. To entertain yourself and meet new people in Bakersfield, indoor activities such as social dancing or taking dance classes are good ideas. Bakersfield has a number of up-and-coming dance clubs and studios in its more metropolitan neighborhoods. Take a class before you hit the club, then show off your new moves.

    Ev-Leen Dance Studio

The Ev-Leen Dance Studio (evleendancestudio.com) was founded by Eve-lyne Thomas, who was trained in the Vaganova style of Russian ballet and continued her dance education at the Fresno Civic Ballet Company. Thomas keeps a staff of trained dancers in all styles -- including ballet, hip hop, contemporary and jazz -- and offers beginning, intermediate and advanced classes in these styles. Additionally, this studio offers workshop packages and basic movement classes for young children.

    Lenore Smith's Dance Arts Center

Lenore Smith's Dance Arts Center (kennedyperformingarts.com) has been around for 60 years, leaving a dance legacy in Bakersfield. This studio offers a wide variety of classes, including show choir, Christian music hip hop, hip hop workout, classic jazz, mommy and me (where parents and children dance together), Zumba and a leaps and turns class. Students can acquire basic movement skills, technique or just have a great workout. Classes require pre-registration.

    Aldo's Night Club

Aldo's Night Club (aldonightclub.com) is celebrating 22 years of being in business since 1989. This club's success lies in its alternating nights -- something different is offered each night of the week. DJs, live shows, drink specials and music themes bring a different type of crowd to the club each night. Music styles played here include hip hop, R&B, latin, pop and rock. Check the website to know the night's theme before you plan your outing.

    Replay Lounge and Grill

If you want to make a full night out of your clubbing experience, visit the Replay Lounge and Grill (no website; 4500 Buck Owens Blvd, Bakersfield). The club's atmosphere caters to the professional crowd with chic decor and medium prices on food and drinks. The facility includes a full restaurant and bar as well as a nightclub with a DJ and live performances. The venue features regular drink specials as well as special events and celebrity guests.
