Mount Rushmore has been a symbol of American patriotism since its completion in 1927. Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, the mountain is famed for the dynamic carvings of four presidents on its face. The monument hosts almost 3 million visitors a year. Although there are no camping, lodging or overnight facilities available within the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, camping options can be found close by.

Rushmore Shadows Resort

Rushmore Shadows Resort ( is located in Rapid City, South Dakota. It is 10 minutes away from Mount Rushmore and other attractions such as Ranch Amusement Park, Rushmore Waterslide, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country USA and the Crazy Horse Monument. The campground offers tent sites, RV hookups, rental cabins and park modules. They boast amenities such as free Wi-Fi, hot tubs, horseshoes, a sports court, bonfire pit, heated swimming pool and playground.

Lake Park Campground and Cottages

Lake Park Campground and Cottages ( is located 30 minutes away from Mount Rushmore, on the west edge of Rapid City. Cottages, RV hookups and tent sites on sand plots are available. The campground is within city limits, so campfires are prohibited, but grills are available. The campground is near bike trails, fishing, swimming facilities and a golf course. Wi-Fi, a 24-hour laundry facility and clean, hot showers are available to guests at no charge.

Crooked Creek Campground and Resort

Crooked Creek Campground and Resort ( is located in Hill City, South Dakota, minutes from attractions such as Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain, the 1880 Black Hills Steam Train and Custer State Park. Hill City itself has a selection of art galleries and wineries. The campground’s accommodations include cabins, lodge rooms, motel rooms, RV lots, tepees and creekside tent sites. Crooked Creek has horseshoes, volley ball, tether ball, creek fishing, cable TV, Wi-Fi, a heated outdoor swimming pool and playground, throughout the facility.

Hill City Mount Rushmore KOA

The Hill City Mount Rushmore KOA ( is located along Palmer Creek at the base of Harney Peak, 5 miles west of Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Custer State Park. Accommodations range from simple tent camping and full hookup standard sites to water-electric sites, deluxe sites and camping cabins. The campground offers laundry facilities, a kitchen, two outdoor heated pool complexes with hot tubs, rental cars, golf carts, and ATVs, trail rides, a souvenir shop and grocery store.
