Liven up a plain coffee mug with photos of your loved ones. Use a crafting technique called decoupage to adhere paper to just about any surface imaginable. A coffee cup personalized with a photo would make a memorable gift for a friend, teacher or family member. You can customize a coffee mug for just about any occasion.
Items you will need
- Coffee mug
- Printed copies of digital photos
- Decoupage medium
- White school glue
- Paint brush
- Clear sealant spray
Wash and dry the coffee mug to begin the project.
Cut out printed digital images to fit the space on the mug. Original photographs will not adhere as well to the mug and the decoupage could damage them, so use paper copies of the photos.
Adhere the photos to the mug using a decoupage medium such as Mod Podge and a paint brush. Alternately, make your own decoupage medium by thinning white school glue with water. Use a thin coat of decoupage medium to attach the photos to the cup.
Add another layer of decoupage medium over the photographs once you have them placed properly. Allow the decoupage medium to dry.
Spray a clear sealant on to the mug to give the it a glossy finish and keep the photos secure.
Tips & Warnings
- Hand wash the mug. Don't place it in a dishwasher once the photos have been decoupaged onto the mug.
- Make sure the decoupage medium and sealer spray you use are non-toxic and safe to use for drinking mugs.
