Wildwood, New Jersey, was immortalized in song by Bobby Rydell in 1963 and is still a prime destination for those who love rollercoasters, white sandy beaches and a boardwalk that resembles a linear carnival, especially in the summer. Visitors who bring their pets can choose from a variety of accommodations ranging from wildly colored "Doo Wop" motels to cozy B&Bs or standard inns. The closest proper hotels that accept pets are in Cape May, about eight miles from Wildwood.

Dawn and Nova Motels

The Dawn and Nova Motels share a single address and a similar 1960s decor. Both of these two-story establishments are steps away from the beach and the Wildwood boardwalk. Not all the rooms are pet-friendly, so call well in advance to make sure your reservation includes your animal. The hotel imposes a $20 daily pet surcharge but if you stay over three days, they will not charge for the additional days.

Tide Winds Motel

The Tide Winds Motel rooms are larger than most and there are two apartments available that sleep up to 10 people. A block and half from the beach, the motel is also just a short walk from Morey's amusement pier, the best place in town to enjoy thrill rides, carnival games, cotton candy, saltwater taffy and a lot of screaming from rollercoaster patrons. Tide Winds has a good-sized swimming pool and no daily charge for pets, although a deposit is required.

Enchantras B&B

Enchantras B&B is a 1907 Victorian home converted to several suites, all decorated with antiques and lacy curtains. A couple of balconies and an outdoor porch provide areas where you can hang out with your pet. It's best to inform the owners about the size and species of the pet you are bringing, as they have some rules regarding specific suites. Dogs are preferred over cats.

Surf 16 Motel

At Surf 16, not only does the management welcome your dog, the website also has a list of things to bring to make him feel more comfortable. The motel charges a $10 daily fee for each dog, and the fenced dog run is large enough for you to give Fido plenty of exercise so he will sleep soundly and not disturb other guests. Dogs must be on leash at all times in public areas. The motel is near the shore but dogs are allowed on the beach only from October to May.
