A pet-friendly hotel offers an economical alternative to boarding and pet sitters, and a way to include your four-legged family member on your next trip. Prepare for traveling with your pet by gathering his veterinary records, a carrying crate, plenty of toys, treats, food, cleanup supplies for accidents and a leash.

Budget

The Motel 6 welcomes your “well-behaved” pet free of charge. If you must leave your pet unattended in your room, Motel 6 requires you crate him. The hotel is located less than five miles from the Frontier! Texas historic adventure museum and the Dyess Air Force base. The recently renovated rooms have LCD televisions with gaming stations and bathrooms with granite counter tops and raised-bowl sinks. The sharp décor has a bold red and khaki color scheme with faux wood floors. The motel has a roomy, outdoor swimming pool.

Moderate

The Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Abilene Mall South is located less than 10 miles from the Abilene Regional Airport and welcomes pets up to 30 lb. for a flat $30 fee per stay (as of November 2010). The hotel's dramatic lobby and multi-use great room are finished in deep wood. The hotel serves a free continental breakfast with juices, cereals, breads, fruits, hard-boiled eggs, cinnamon rolls and pastries. The king and queen guest rooms have a separate seating area, work desk, microwave and refrigerator. Take advantage of the fitness center, outdoor whirlpool and business center during your stay.

Extended-Stay Suites

Candlewood Suites is an all-suite hotel located in downtown Abilene. Your pet of up to 80 lb. is welcome for a nonrefundable fee of $75 (as of November 2010) for stays less than a week, and $150 for seven or more nights. The hotel requires you sign a pet agreement and bring your animal’s full, current record of vaccinations. The hotel has studio and one-bedroom suites decorated in a sage green and taupe color scheme. Each suite has a fully equipped kitchenette. Amenities include a 24-hour business center, outdoor pool and fitness center. The outdoor lounge area has a gazebo and barbecue grills. The on-site Cupboard offers packaged lunch and snack items on the go.

Deluxe Suites

The recently constructed Residence Inn Abilene welcomes your pet for a $75 sanitation charge per visit (as of November 2010). The hotel’s studio, one- and two-bedroom suites have a modern, sophisticated décor. Full-sized kitchens have stainless steel appliances, solid wood cabinetry and sleek, granite counter tops. The hotel serves a free hot breakfast buffet each morning and hors d'œuvres on weeknights. The outdoor pool has lounge areas and barbecue grills. Plush beds are dressed with soft linens, custom-made comforters and overstuffed pillows. The housekeeping staff will take care of dishes if you don’t. Tee off at one of two golf courses located less than 10 miles from the property.
