With miles of sandy beaches and oceanfront waters, the Florida Keys could be an oasis for pets that enjoy the outdoors and love to run. Most pet-friendly accommodations require advance notice if pets will be staying on their property. For respect of other guests, many accommodations request that pets stay on leashes when they are outside of the guest rooms.


The Doubletree Grand Key Resort in Key West allows pets 75 lbs. or less to stay in guest rooms for an additional fee. Rooms, accented in yellow and blue hues, include mini-refrigerators, Internet access, newspaper delivery and private balconies. On-site amenities range from laundry facilities, to a business center and fitness room. The outdoor swimming pool in the center of the property is surrounded by palm trees. The casual on-site restaurant, Palm Haven, offers a seafood menu and is open daily. The Lime Tree Bay Resort provides designated pet-friendly rooms for an additional nightly fee. The 46 smoke-free rooms range from studios to three-bedroom accommodations. Rooms offer DVD players, iPod docks and free Internet access; suites include separate living and dining areas, sundecks and full-kitchens. Rooms are individually decorated in bright colors with either tiled or carpeted floors. Resort amenities include tennis courts, a private beach with easy water access, hammocks and water rentals such as jet skis and boats.


Located in Marathon, the smoke-free Sea Dell Motel offers guest rooms decorated in bright yellow hues and floral decor. Rooms provide kitchenettes, free Internet access and barbecue grills. Pets are allowed in waterview efficiency room with a security deposit required on check-in. An outdoor swimming pool adds to the motel's amenities. The motel is less than two miles from the nearby Sombrero Beach located by the Atlantic Ocean. Also in Marathon, the Siesta Motel -- a 10-minute drive from the beaches at Bahia Honda State Park -- provides pet-friendly rooms with an additional fee and advance notification . The smoke-free rooms range from studios up to three-bedroom suites and include kitchenettes, living rooms and patios with barbecue grills. The motel provides Internet access, a playground area, two swimming pools and bicycle trails.

Luxury Hotel

The Casa Marina Resort in Key West is a Waldorf Astoria Resort that offers scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean and a private beach. Built in the 1920s, the hotel offers a classic feel with its cream-colored walls, wooden floors and arched entryways. Rooms offer Internet access, dining areas and private balconies overlooking either the pool or beach. The resort allows pets 25 lbs. or less to stay in rooms for a nonrefundable pet fee. The on-site Spa al Mare continues with the hotel's classic feel by providing private beachfront massages under a shaded canopy. Resort amenities include two swimming pools with ocean views, hammocks and three restaurants. The hotel can arrange for scuba diving certification programs, snorkeling trips and fishing charters. An airport shuttle is available for an additional fee.

Waterfront Hotels

The Bayside Inn Key Largo has a two pet per room policy and a daily pet fee may apply. Offering panoramic views of the Florida Bay, the hotel's amenities range from a laundry facility, to an outdoor pool and a fitness center. The 56 guest rooms offer Internet access, dining areas, separate living areas and a furnished balconies. The Florida Keys Wild Bird Center and the Jacobs Aquatic Center are less than a seven-minute drive away. Steps from Mallory Square, the Westin Key West Resort provides 178 smoke-free rooms decorated in warm orange and yellow colors. Rooms offer iPod docks, robes, free Internet access and sitting areas; some rooms provide ocean views. The hotel welcomes pets that are 40 lbs. or less. Pets must never be left unattended and the hotel must be notified in advance. Hotel services include an outdoor pool, boat rentals, a gift shop and a fitness facility.
