With plentiful independent and chain hotels that allow pets, you'll have no excuse to leave your four-legged friend behind. State law requires dogs have a current rabies vaccination and tag. Be cautioned—animal welfare officers may shoot dogs chasing deer, so always keep yours on a leash.

The Motel Six in Horseheads welcomes “well-behaved” pets free of charge; just let your reservations agent know upon arrival or when booking your stay. The budget chain has vibrant blue carpeting and colorful bedding to complement the basic cream walls and drapery. Rooms have a spacious area for working or eating. The motel is located just moments from the Chemung County Fairgrounds and the National Soaring and Warplane museums. You can enjoy free coffee in the lobby and dine at one of the many casual eateries in the nearby area.

The La Tourelle Resort and Spa in Ithaca welcomes your pet in any of the property’s standard king rooms, which are decorated with plush bedding, large wood furniture and tile flooring dressed with decorative area rugs. The John Thomas Steak House is located right on the resort’s landscaped grounds, surrounded by apple and pear trees. The La Tourelle Resort and Spa offers a tranquil escape from bustling city life with special packages for wine aficionados, theatre buffs, art lovers, nature enthusiasts and girlfriends spa getaways. Pet deposit fees vary.
