If you're planning a New York City vacation, consider bringing your pets. New York is one of the few cities that allow pets to ride subways and buses. Its extensive park system provides plenty of open spaces for dog walking. New York has many pet-friendly hotels, but some are merely pet-tolerant, with weight and breed restrictions and a prohibition against pets staying in the room unsupervised. Others go out of their way to provide a luxury hotel experience for your four-legged friend.

what is a fallback

Hartz Mountain Industries

Hartz Mountain Industries, the pet food company, owns the Soho and Tribeca Grand hotels in Lower Manhattan. Pets stay free and even get their own room service menu. These hotels provide food and water bowls, crates and kitty litter boxes. Art galleries, boutiques and hip restaurants fill the streets of Soho, and galleries, boutiques and contemporary furniture stores abound in Tribeca. Both hotels have an ultra-modern decor, high-tech amenities and high-end bath products.

Kimpton Hotels

Kimpton, an international hotel chain, is known for its high-end pet amenities. All pet breeds are welcome at no extra charge. In fact, the Muse Hotel, in Times Square, has hosted snakes, penguins and pigs. Kimpton hotels offer a dog bed, toys, a bone, and a manicure and pedicure for dogs. Visitors to the Gramercy Park and Murray Hill neighborhoods will find their pets are welcome at the 70 Park Avenue Hotel.

Affinia Hotels

Affinia Hotels boasts its signature Jet Set Pets program, which charges a one-time $25 fee but provides bowls, litter boxes, bags and treats. The pet concierge can arrange pet spa treatments, dog walking, pet sitting, grooming and even a pet psychic. Affinia has five New York City hotels. Affinia 50 is at 50th Street and Third Avenue. Affinia Dumont, at 34th Street and Lexington Avenue, has special in-room fitness amenities. Affinia Gardens, on 64th Street between Second and Third avenues, is just a few blocks from Carl Schurz Park, with its two dog runs. Affinia Manhattan, at 31st Street and Seventh Avenue, is the closest Affinia Hotel to Madison Square Garden, and the Affinia Shelburne, at 37th Street and Lexington Avenue, is in the Murray Hill neighborhood. All Affinia hotels feature modern decor and offer in-room spa treatments and Experience Kits, with tours of New York City.

Loews Hotels

Loews Hotels has a signature Loews Loves Pets program, which provides pets with a special tag, a food bowl and a complimentary treat. Gourmet pet food is available for an extra fee. The hotel, at Park Avenue and 61st Street, is just two blocks from Central Park, which offers 6.2 miles of trails. Dogs gather at the Central Park Dog Hill, on 79th Street on the east side of the park.
