Beauty pageants offer opportunities for women and girls to earn scholarships and prize money and to serve their communities and important causes. Contestants are judged on the basis of their poise, appearance, talent and character. New Mexico hosts several pageants every year, encompassing all ages.Several pageant organizations hold state and local level pageants in New Mexico, including the Miss America Organization, Miss High School America, Mrs. America and Miss Earth. Winners go on to compete at the national level, representing the state of New Mexico.

Miss New Mexico and Miss New Mexico Outstanding Teen

As part of the Miss America Organization, the Miss New Mexico and Miss New Mexico Outstanding Teen competitions consist of four categories including an interview, stage appearances in a swimsuit and evening wear and a talent act. In order to participate in either competition, contestants must first win a local title. To compete in Miss New Mexico, contestants must be between 17 and 24 years old, New Mexico residents and U.S. citizens. Contestants must also have graduated from high school and must not be pregnant or ever have been pregnant. The winner of Miss New Mexico competes in the Miss America Pageant. To eligible for the Miss New Mexico Outstanding Teen, contestants must be between 13 and 17, New Mexico residents and U.S. citizens. They must be attending school full-time and must never have been convicted of a crime. The winner of the Miss New Mexico Outstanding Teen represents her state in the Miss America Outstanding Teen.

Miss High School New Mexico

The Miss High School New Mexico Pageant is affiliated with the Miss High School America Pageant, a national competition that awards titles and prize money. To be eligible for Miss High School New Mexico, contestants must be enrolled in high school, U.S. citizens and New Mexico residents. The winner is crowned Miss High School New Mexico and represents her state at the Miss High School America Pageant.

Mrs. New Mexico

Mrs. New Mexico is part of the Mrs. America and Mrs. World Organization. Contestants must be at least 19 years old and must be married, but there is no age or height limit. The competition consists of an interview and two stage appearances in a swimsuit and an evening gown. There is no community service requirement or talent presentation. Beauty pageant experience is not required. The winner competes in the national Mrs. America Pageant.

Miss Earth New Mexico and Miss Teen Earth New Mexico

Miss Earth New Mexico and Miss Teen Earth New Mexico are part of the Miss Earth Foundation. These competitions judge contestants on the basis of their beauty and knowledge of environmental issues. Titleholders and contestants should be involved in environmental protection and conservation. Winners of both pageants become advocates for environmental campaigns in New Mexico. Both competitions consist of an interview and two stage appearances in a swimsuit and evening gown. Beauty pageant experience is not required. Winners compete in Miss Earth United States and Miss Teen Earth United States, respectively.

New Mexico State Cinderella Scholarship Program

The New Mexico State Cinderella Scholarship Program is a state-wide competition for baby girls, women and young girls. To participate, contestants must first win a local competition. There is no age limit, but there are seven age divisions: Baby, Tot, Mini Miss, Miss, Teen, Woman and Ambassador. Several titles are awarded for each division, including Overall Cinderella Winner, Cinderella Talent Winner, Tot Personality Winner, Cinderella Beauty Winner, Cinderella Photogenic Winner, Cinderella Cover Girl Winner and Community Support Award. Each award includes a crown, sash and cash prize. All titleholders are eligible to compete in the international finals.
