Orlando, Florida, Airport Lodging

by T.L. Chancellor

Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World are just three of the reasons Orlando is one of the nation's most popular tourist destination. Orlando International Airport serves millions of travelers each year, and in 2009 it was the 27th busiest airport in the world, according to Airports Council International. There are many hotels within a few miles of the terminal that accommodate a variety of budgets and needs.

The Luxury Option

AAA rates the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport as a four-diamond hotel, and NBC's Today Show selected it as one of the best airport hotels in the U.S. For those departing from and returning to Orlando, the Hyatt offers “Stay and Fly” packages that include a room before the flight and discounted parking for vehicles. The Hyatt is home to the Hemisphere Steak and Seafood restaurant, a winner of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence. The Hyatt can arrange for bags to be delivered to the room from baggage claim. Guest rooms feature iPod docking stations and refrigerators. The Hyatt offers day rooms from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for travelers who have long layovers.

Discount Hotels

The Quality Inn Orlando Airport is two miles from the main terminal and has access to several Orlando theme parks. It offers free airport transportation, convention center transportation with an advanced reservation, free breakfast, free wireless Internet access, and an outdoor pool and fitness center. It also offers Stay and Fly packages and a business center. The Super 8 Orlando Airport is on the south side of the terminal and is a half mile from the Florida Mall. Guests can take advantage of a business center, free continental breakfast and a pool. The Super 8 does not offer an airport shuttle and, unlike most Super 8 hotels, does not allow pets.

Technology and Meetings

The Renaissance Orlando is less than two miles from the airport, and boasts amenities for both business travelers and technology geeks. The hotel has 20,000 square feet of meeting space so guests can host conferences and events on site. Renaissance meeting services include an amphitheater-style room and catering options. In each room, guests can use the Plug-In Room Panel. This panel allows guests to use different types of technology at the same time, including iPods, DVD players and laptops.

Suite-Only Hotels

For higher-end hotel users, the Embassy Suites Orlando Airport is an all-suite hotel that features a complimentary airport shuttle, complimentary breakfast, complimentary manager’s reception and complimentary business center. Rooms feature refrigerators, microwaves and coffeemakers. The Kitty Hawk Café and Lounge offers food and drinks seven days a week. The Hawthorn Suites Orlando Airport is an all-suite hotel located just two miles from the airport. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, as well as service to local shopping and restaurants. All suites have a sitting area and full kitchen. If guests don’t want to cook, the hotel has a complimentary hot breakfast buffet every day, features a complimentary manager’s reception four days per week and a complimentary dinner every Wednesday.
