St. Augustine, Florida, known as "America's Oldest City," offers visitors a lot of opportunities to explore historic attractions. You can visit Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth, stroll through art galleries, watch alligators or go to any number of other attractions. Or perhaps you're interested in just exploring the sand and surf. There are several campgrounds near the oceanfront for those who are looking for a camping adventure in this historic Florida coastal town.

    Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort

The Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort (brynmawroceanresort.com) refers to itself as a "vacationer's dream" and is located right on the St. Augustine Beach. The resort features amenities such as a swimming pool, game room, tennis courts, horseshoe pitch as well as instant ocean access. Also included in the overnight camping rates are clean restroom and shower facilities. Rates vary according to season and are subject to change, but in general, nightly rates for oceanfront campsites begin around the $56 to $60 range.

    St. Augustine Beach KOA

KOA, short for Kampgrounds of America, operates a campground (staugustinekoa.com) that is three fourths of a mile away from St. Augustine Beach and the ocean. The campground offers cabins, RV sites shaded by trees and also tent sites. Many amenities are available, including a swimming pool, free wireless access, cable TV, a fishing lake, game room, laundry facilities and a playground. There is even a meeting room available for rental if you want to host a group event at the site.

    Ocean Grove RV Resort

Ocean Grove RV Resort (oceangroveresort.com) offers both tent sites and RV sites and is located six miles south of St. Augustine, with the Atlantic Ocean only a block away. The resort is slightly different from the other sites in that not only does it offer rentals, but you can also purchase an RV home in the park. Among the numerous amenities offered here are electrical services, wireless Internet availability, swimming pool, Jacuzzi pool, 24-hour security and gated entry.

    North Beach Camp Resort

The North Beach Camp Resort (northbeachcamp.com) is located on a barrier island in between the North River and the Atlantic Ocean. The resort is approximately 4.5 miles north of downtown St. Augustine and features numerous amenities such as easy access to fishing locations, a full basketball court, camping cabins and even an on-site restaurant called Aunt-Kate's. There is a second, highly acclaimed restaurant next door to the resort called The Reef. In addition, the resort offers discount passes for a cruise around St. Augustine.

    Anastasia State Park

Another option for oceanfront camping is found in one of Florida's State Parks. Anastasia State Park (floridastateparks.org) offers 139 campsites and hookups for RVs. It is located less than five miles south of St. Augustine and is within walking distance to the beach. In addition, the park's Island Beach Shop and Grill offers bike rentals if you would rather explore the area on two wheels.
