by Don Amerman Google

Located on the eastern banks of the Wabash River, Terre Haute is the business, educational and cultural capital of west-central Indiana. The city of 60,000 sits at the junction of two key highways: east-west Interstate 70, which runs from Baltimore to Utah, and north-south U.S. Highway 41 linking Michigan to Florida. Whether you’re visiting Terre Haute or just passing through, you’ll find a wide selection of motels from which to choose.

Drury Inn Terre Haute

Right on Highway 41, just off Exit 7 of Interstate 70, this seven-story, 152-unit motel lies only five miles from the campus of Indiana State University, the school that helped to groom basketball player Larry Bird for his phenomenal NBA success. A handful of complimentary services set this property apart from many of its competitors. Like many motels and hotels, the Drury Inn serves a complimentary breakfast each morning but goes a step beyond that by providing free popcorn and soft drinks in the lobby each day from 3 to 10 p.m. Its special 5:30 Kickback treats guests to free drinks -- both alcoholic and nonalcoholic -- as well as complimentary appetizers, such as egg rolls, chicken strips and meatballs. All of the Drury’s rooms feature microwave ovens, compact refrigerators and high-speed Internet access.

Hilton Garden Inn Terre Haute

This six-story, 109-unit motel sits in the heart of downtown Terre Haute, close to the campus of Indiana State University and the regional branches of many large corporations, including Eli Lilly-Clinton Labs, Pfizer, ThyssenKrupp Presta, Bemis and Columbia House. For the benefit of business travelers, the motel’s business center is open 24 hours a day, and guests can also use the remote printing service to print documents and maps from the comfort of their guest rooms. All rooms have microwave ovens and mini-refrigerators, as well as wireless Internet access. The on-site Great American Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a casual setting.

Holiday Inn Terre Haute

Located at the junction of Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 41 -- the so-called Crossroads of America -- this five-story, 230-unit motel has a large indoor recreation area that includes a state-of-the-art fitness center, swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. The motel welcomes small pets for a nominal additional fee and offers such child-friendly features as sports activity tables in the recreation area, board games that can be borrowed from the front desk and free meals for children who are under 12. The on-site Sycamore Grove Family Dining Room serves a breakfast buffet daily, and the Apple Club of Terre Haute, also on the premises, is open for lunch Monday through Saturday and dinner every night of the week.

SpringHill Suites Terre Haute

This all-suites property is particularly popular with family groups and travelers who plan an extended stay in the Terre Haute area. Each of its 92 suites offers at least 25 percent more space than the average motel room. The motel lays out a complimentary breakfast buffet each morning and hosts an evening reception with free cocktails four nights a week. Although there is no on-site restaurant, the motel lies within walking distance of several eateries, including Apple Club, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday and Cracker Barrel.
