by Don Amerman Google

Located in the Cumberland Valley of south-central Pennsylvania, Chambersburg lies 13 miles north of the Maryland state line and within an hour of nearby sections of West Virginia and Virginia. Rich in history, Chambersburg has the dubious distinction of being the only major northern town to be burned down by Confederate forces during the Civil War. Four Chambersburg motels offer a combination of comfortable accommodations and reasonable rates likely to appeal to budget-minded travelers.

Best Western Chambersburg

This single-story, 48-unit motel lies two miles from Chambersburg’s downtown business district and a short drive from Civil War battlefields that played a key role in determining the conflict’s ultimate outcome. For those interested in the current state of Pennsylvania government and politics, Harrisburg, the state capital, is an hour away. Not far from Exit 16 off Interstate 81, the motel has a limited number of pet-friendly rooms, where your cat or dog can stay for an additional charge of $15 per night (as of November 2010). Recreational facilities include a heated outdoor swimming pool and fitness center. The motel serves a complimentary continental breakfast each morning. Restaurants adjacent to the motel include Burger King, Long John Silver’s, McDonald’s, Pat & Carla’s Italian Eatery, and Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Chambersburg Travelodge

Located midway between downtown Chambersburg and Exit 16 of Interstate 81, this three-story, 94-unit motel sits on historic U.S. Highway 30, also known as the Lincoln Highway, which runs from Philadelphia in the east to the Ohio state line in the west. Setting the Travelodge apart from the other Chambersburg motels is its on-site restaurant/lounge. The motel serves a complimentary hot breakfast each morning, and high-speed Internet is available in both guest rooms and common areas of the motel.

Days Inn Chambersburg

Just off Exit 16 of Interstate 81, the main north-south artery through the Chambersburg area, this three-story, 97-unit motel provides a convenient base for exploring the historical attractions of not only Chambersburg but also Gettysburg, which lies 25 miles away. High-speed wireless Internet is available throughout the motel’s rooms and common areas. A complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning. Nearby restaurants include Chris’s Country Kitchen, KFC, King’s Buffet, Perkins and Ryan’s.

Sleep Inn & Suites

This two-story, 71-unit motel lies close to Exit 20 of Interstate 81 and less than a mile from the Chambersburg Mall, the area’s largest enclosed shopping center. The motel is also within an hour’s drive of several area colleges and universities, including Dickinson College, Gettysburg College, Shippensburg University and Wilson College. All guests rooms and suites feature microwaves and compact refrigerators, as well as high-speed Internet, which is also available in all of the motel’s common areas. Other hotel features include an indoor swimming pool, fitness center and complimentary hot breakfast. Nearby restaurants include Applebee’s, Bonanza Steakhouse, Norland Pub, Oriental Buffet, Red Robin, and Schoenberger’s.
