Triathlon racers need a simple and quick way to store their bicycles. A collapsible and sturdy bike rack is one key for any triathlon organizer or group of bikers. A triathlon bike rack holds racing bikes by their seats. They are taller than normal bike racks and are not made to have bikes locked to them. Build a simple triathlon bike rack using PVC pipe. The rack will be able to be taken apart quickly and you can store its components inside the largest pipe.
Step 1
Drill two 1-inch holes through the 60-inch pipe so they are aligned and each 1 inch away from the ends of the pipe.
Step 2
Drill another pair of 1-inch holes through the 60-inch pipe so they are aligned 2 inches away from the ends of the pipe and both 1/8 of an inch on one side of the first pair of pipes. This is so when the pairs of 50-inch pipes are inserted through the holes they will make an "x" in the inside of the pipe.
Step 3
Insert a pair of 50-inch pipes through the 1-inch holes so they have 6 inches of excess length on one side of the pipe and 44 inches of excess length on the other side. Drill a 1/8-inch hole through both pairs of pipes where they intersect and make an "x" on the inside of the pipe. Insert a pin in each of these holes to secure the pipes in this position.
Step 4
Hold your bike by the handle bars and by the seat so the bike is at a right angle to the 60-inch pipe. Lift the bike up by the seat and set the seat on top of the 60-inch pipe. The bike is supported by the seat on the 60-inch pipe and by the front tire.
Step 5
Remove the pins from the 50-inch pipes and insert the pipes and pins into the 60-inch pipe. Place the end caps on the 60-inch pipe and the rack can be placed in storage.
